View Full Version : HDD wipe question

My WD800JB is dead. I believe it was a bad drive from the beginning for various reasons. But anyway, I'd like to be certain that no one can recover any of my data from it. It won't even spin up, but I'm sure it could be fixed and I'd rather not risk that. Is there anything I can do to wipe the data?
Not really no, data recovery from dead drives are VERY expensive.

You need three tools.
1. A hammer.
2. Lighter fluid or gasoline.
3. A match.
Fill in the blanks.

For the hell of it I removed the jumper and it started, so I was able to salvage what I wanted and format the disk before I sent it back.
Is there something on you don't want them to see?

Personal phone numbers, schoolwork, emails, pr0n, the usual.
Thought as much lol, I wouldn't worry about it they won't look on the drive they have to many drives to fix to go snooping :D They test it, repair it, delete partion, add partion, format, test, format then send it back. It is possible to retrieve data but it's expensive, 1+ grand expensive
