Help!!!

Is this why I get random reboots, freezes, and crashes with me nForce?

Power Supply is WACK (http://home.attbi.com/~tspanos560/)

Look at the voltages, are they ok? :eek: I hope not, it better be a PSU issue!

(That is my dads computer, I use it when I go over there sometimes, my brother has LAN parties with it).

That 5V rail is a tad low...but that shouldn't be nearly enough to cause you the types of problems you're having...

The big questions are:

1) What type of memory are you using? ( brand and single/dual sided )

2) How many sticks of memory are you using?

3) How many watts is the power supply rated for?

4) If 300W or under, how many devices are being used ( ie: # of HD's, CDRW, CD-Rom, etc... )

5) Is the system overclocked?


6) What model motherboard?

If you can get us this info, we can do our best to get that system stable....

1 and 2) 1 Stick of Really Generic PC 2100 RAM

3) 300w Generic PSU

4) 1 Hardrive, a CD-RW Drive, a DVD Drive, 2 80mm fans, and a retail AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Fan/Heatsink with silver compound underneath

5) NO! It's an nForce! :D

6. MSI K7N420D(Running the latest Bios and drivers).

Other things you might want to know:

- CPU Maxes at 58c

- No other hardware installed

- Processor is an Athlon XP 1800+

- I beat a capacitor near the CPU, but the connection was not ruined or damaged at all, I straightened it back out, and it was fine

- The first stick of ram I used was Generic, and the computer had severe problems. I went and got the same stick of ram, and it worked fine

- The DVD drive is on the same IDE as the hardrive.

- The one stick of Ram holds memory bandwith back from me.

What I'm going to do:

- Buy 2 sticks Crucial 2100 ram

- Put the Hardrive on it's IDE

- Get a better PSU

- Get better cooling

the nforce is really picky with memory so using "el cheapo" generic memory is sure to bomb.

Also you should put your harddisk and DVD/cdrw in different ide channels, specially if you are using ultra ata 66 or faster hard disk, otherwise the slave device will slowdown your performance considerably.

Depending on how daring you are you could put some heatsinks on your MOFSETS (that correct spelling?) I've seen it stablize some voltages... I'm about to do so on my KT7A. Get my 12v back up to 12. It's around the 11.89 mark, it isn't all that bad, but voltages are really strange when I overclock. The Vcore is pretty jumpy under stress.
