Hi all,

I have a Gainward GFFX 5900 Ultra, and something weird has been happening on occasion.

I can be working on something (not even playing games mind you) and the screen will flicker, then in like 2 seconds later, my video screen becomes garbled with white squares, with Black X's in the squares. This happened like 8 times, then I UNDERCLOCKED it, and it is stable...I paid $477 for an UNDERCLOCKED Vid card. I tried updating BIOS, but it is the same one that is on the card now!

I bought it from MonarchComputer.com on July 5th, you think they will RMA it? I also asked them if they would exchange it for an ATI card (I described all the driver stuff as well, and the flickering, etc.) You think they would exchange it for an ATI card? They would owe me about $85, coz I would only get the 128MB version (it is faster in some cases than the 256MB)

Let me review:

1. UNDERCLOCKED Vid card, that SHOULD hit at least clock speeds

2. Flickering problem (only on a couple games, not all)

3. DISMAL performance on Halflife 2

4. Driver Optimizations/Image Quality ( I do play alot of UT2k3)

5. ATI has a slight performance lead (Yeah, I had to poke that in for you ATI'ers :P )
So why wouldnt they RMA it?

I need some advice if they refuse the RMA. Remember , I bought it on July 5th, this is Aug 28. (i've been running it underclocked for this long).

Thanks

Sham

I didn't know that HalfLife 2 is already out! Where can I buy it?

20Mhz underclock (just low enough to stay stable) and I own an Antec True Power 380w

it's not out, but after what a guy said at Valve games (the makers of HL2) it will have, and I quote "dismal performance, due to poor PS 2.0 shader problems"

I quote the inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11267) (ok, it's only the inquirer but nevertheless):

Except for the rumours recently reaching my ears that ATi, following its collaboration to show HL2 at E3 in Las Vegas, has since paid a seven-figure sum to Valve Software to optimise for ATi hardware. Rumour? Possibly, but an unnamed Nvidia source said 'it wouldn't surprise him'. ATi PR refuses to comment, and Valve Software was extremely diplomatic and just fed us the official company line.

There's more going on in this industry than most people will ever know...

Exchange for ATI card ? 90% - NO!! I tried that at www.gameve.com
RMA ? 30 days already have passed, not sure what is their company policy, the chance is that you will be able to exchange the card but NOT refund. I am lucky, I RMA'd my card on 22nd day after I bought it, and after seeing FX performance in Angel of Crappiness.

And ATI also paid to developers of Angel of Darkness. Something is fishy.

BTW, show me where you found that quote :)

unfortunately, no one at valve software never ever said something about "dismal performance". They never even could dare to say it even if it was true since they are well respected company and this is not the way to talk about others in any business!

Anyway, you know what "poor ... problems" would mean if it was English? It would mean: "little problems" :)

Again, what a strange quote you made in your previous post...

I bought a geforce 3 ti200 deluxe from MonarchComputer.com one time. Some of the software didn't come with serial#'s.... fishy eh? I never called to complain because the software sucked anyway.

ok, where can I find now the quote "dismal performance, due to poor PS 2.0 shader problems" from the valve guy?

That was actually my question...
