highly unlikely because the ArtX division of ATI will be busy enough with XBox 2. hardware specs will have to be 'frozen' by mid-2004 if the company wants a 2006 release.

Hmm, I thought the ArtX division / ATI's west-coast team / Santa Clara CA
team was working on Nintendo graphics for GC2 (N5) while ATI's other main GPU team, in the east, is working on R500 and XB2 graphics.

It'd be really stupid for every major manufacturer to go with ATI based on the performance of one generation of cards.

Look at NVIDIA this generation--they were unstoppable with NV2x, this generation they faltered severely, but next generation, they might come back very strong.

possibly true; i don't know the specifics. i'm sure there will be some cross-pollination between the two teams during design and development. regardless, ATI is looking rather healthy in the console arena. as for the whole sony/nvidia connection ... sony has a history of keeping most development and some production in-house (one place they are vulnerable, however, is flat-panel plasma displays but that's a totally different story)

anyway, without any official annoucement(s), it is pure speculation about the sony / nvidia pairing. as i have mentioned earlier, hardware specs must be 'frozen' by mid-2004 if they want to meet the 2006 window of opportunity.

i think you guys have got this whole ati xbox deal blown way out of proportion ..... who cares if ati has the xbox ... if nvidia can score the ps3 then pfffftt there in {well the same could be said about any body} look at last weeks sales charts

xbox is way behind even the game cube and the ps one is right next to xbox now thats scary
but we all know that the consoles them selves are money loosing peices of hardware look at the games that are being sold there all ps2 and gc thats were all the money is made

Are you sure those numbers are not Japan only, cuz it sure looks that way to me. As we all know, Xbox doesn't sell in Japan. The game sales seem to be from Japan, and there's no way Xbox only sold < 60K units worldwide throughout 2003.

those are Japanese sales results. you can't even purchase the WonderSwan Crystal here. and even if you can (via importer) all the games are for the Japanese market ...

even so, the link to magic-box does not reflect the worldwide sales of the three major consoles. the nintendo gamecube and microsoft xbox have worldwide sales of about 11 million each. the sony playstation 2 is in the lower 40 million region.

anyway, as far as i'm concerned, the whole sony / ati pairing does not exist because neither company has made any official announcements.
