View Full Version : The Honorable Elijah Cummings hears from sbp
Dear Representative Elijah Cummings:
It is with much bemusement I read your statement in the first weekly address from the Congressional Black Caucus about "irresponsible tax policies that benefit only millionaires." Sir, you can imagine the consternation when I found my brother-in-law suddenly was a millionaire! No doubt you fine ladies and gentlemen in Washington DC can do more with his money than he can with a third child on the way.
Your respective fellow Marylander,
sbp
It seems he doesnt understand how wealth is acquired. Most people in this country, that arn't related to the Kennedy's, actually work and earn their pay no matter how much it may be. The complex that raising taxes to the middle and upper class is counter productive to the country's economic power. The middle class moves the economy and without it, or its buying power a capitalist country fails.
with all that said, keep your commie hands off middle and upper class's money that they deserve.

 First of all, welcome to nVnews forums. :)
Yeah I kept it short and to the point, otherwise Cummings attention would wander and its obvious he doesn't seem too swift.
What?!? You mean people aren't winners of life's lottery? *gasp* Libs would be shocked and dismayed at such a true statement!
Yes, the left would love to make us all po' and dependent. Shame on them. :ass:
:clever: haha thanks for the warm welcome and the warning :D
they now are blind, but someday with guidance shall see:cool:

Welcome Xsiled! :D
OMFG, a tax cut for the people who actually pay the taxes? Who'd a thunk it?
taxes drive a nation... the tax structure here is messed up... what with marriage tax and all kinds of other retarded stuff...
smaller government == less taxes
bush's tax cut plan is perhaps irresponsible with consideration to the amount that was cut... the time it was cut and the people in the income bracket who most benefitted from the cuts...
lets face it... the rich are unlikely to curb spending regardless of how bad the economy is... it is more middle/lower income families...
products flying off the shelves are mostly walmart/target material... not prada/lamborghini... though it would be lovely to have the same...
giving back the amounts... averaged out... sounds like a good deal but the fact is his policies do favor the rich while claiming to drive forward the economy and give it renewed impetus.. if that was the case there would be more cuts to the lower/middle class families...
frankly speaking families should get more college credit for their children.. but our nation has too much bureaucracy and too many lawyers and litigation... cut out half the lawyers in this country and the lawsuits that go with the territory and we would all have less to pay (in terms of insurance and whatever else)
that ideally would be a good solution... :)
-edit- btw welcome aboard m8...

The rich don't sit around paying for top bill goods all the time. Do try not to blow things out of perportion. We need stuff to fly off the shelves from Walmart and Target. that is what drives this economy.
In general you and I agree about the tax structure we want but this last tax cut did not hurt the economy one bit. The timing was fine. In fact don't you find it funny that last month we had a growth in gdp and in the same month the tax rebates came out. ;)
lowerclass can't have tax cuts.
reason?
they pay little to no taxes.
the middle and upper class put money back into the economy even if they dont spend the money, money within a bank does just as much good for the economy as spending does.
as for the college credit... whats the point? If the student works for it they get some sort of benifit from the insitution, other wise, get student loans and work hard through college.
no one in this country should be granted special rights(thank you mr.nixon for AA) but at the same time why penalize the people that fuel the economy and restrict their buying power.

I thought the last part was what I said... :)
btw I dont think the rich sit around paying top dollar for all sortsa stuff udawg... you know what I want the tax structure to be like... :) we have discussed this...
ideally I would love for a flat tax setup so everyone pays the same percetage of income beyond a certain income level (have the cut-off level where it suits... we can discuss that some other time)

growth in gdp is calculated that fast ? that is indeed quite interesting... :)
I must not have paid much attention in macroeconomics class :D
I do think the tax cut did hurt the economy... look @ the budget deficit... the record numbers mean nothing apparently but there are miscalculations...
w/o social security surplusses being fobbed to give a rosier outlook... the deficit would be/look much worse... and the job market is absolutely stagnant...

the average family in the us holds a debt therefore the amount of money in a bank is a bit of a moot point... :) the american people are not known for their ability to save :)
besides... look @ japan... they save tons more money than we do on average... didn't make a difference when it comes to the economy there... banks in general can and do make mistakes... bad loans and the like...
college in the US has become a business more so than an education experience... cost of tuition in this nation is rising @ almost double (in some states/colleges even more... ) the rate of inflation... for a family to put their child through school/college... below a certain income level I do think they should have the opportunity for college credit... not everyone can afford to buy their way into harvard/yale and other big name uni's...
I don't personally believe in special rights either... but to suggest that the only people who push this nation forward are the rich and middle class (I'll have to differentiate here... lets say upper-middle class) is a bit erroneous...
also... like I said... the rich are unlikely to stop buying products because they have sufficient income in order to sustain their life style... they work hard for the most part... I don't believe in penalizing the rich for being rich... but then... this whole issue would not have been raised if the tax rebates were not being handed out :)
the deficit is done by over spending. It didn't go up because of tax cuts. We were spending way over budget. They had enough money but keep spending. Tax cuts had nothing to do with it. Especially since the tax cuts we got were so small.
I am all for the Fair tax not the flat tax. The flat tax would be better than what we have now but the Fair tax is the way to go.
Fairtax (http://www.fairtax.org/)
Under this structure the rich would pay more but only when they purchased products. This system also encourages for us to save money because purchasing is taxed and saving money is great because it cuts down on personal debt. I like it and that my story. :D

hmm.. spending over budget + tax rebates/cutting taxes (reducing income to off set spending over budget) == BIG deficit :)
the overall tax cut is big udawg... even if the rebate checks we got were small... there are a few who got big ones... (ie my brother... the sod :( )

No no no maybe you missed something. The whole tax cut is phased in. It is not all enacted at once. So the initial effect on the economy was taken into consideration. ;)

I am not missing anything... (I hope not anyways :D )
as more cuts take place over the 10 years or whatever... :( we will have to see how we handle it...
the balooning deficits projected are not a pleasant thought...
This deficit talk is just sad. This is all dems will talk about.

Hey I deserved a tax cut and a refund and I got one:p
I got around £400 back earlier this year because of a huge screw up by the tax office. Tax the rich and give that money to me, they have enough to go around:angel:
*gets the fire extinguisher*
Edit: And there are plenty of middle and upper class folks who do not deserve that money. Those who worked their arses off for it I have no problem with, those that have not even done a days work in their lives I have problems with. My workplace is a fine example, the higher up you go in this place the more money you get. You get less work to do and always screw up, I am not exagerating this, the upper management in this place are incompetants and do not deserve the wage they get while we sit down here slaving away. There are too many people like that around who have had a free ride and do not know what a days work is.

...and most of them work in the public sector. Case in point? A 200 page report written by "council officials" on how best to improve calderdales roads cost nearly a million, and the local press are screaming about the actual councillors getting 10 grand a year.. now thats screwed up.
Having seen a bit more of the management side of the business world though, I have to say that while it appears managers do less, second for second, on the most part they have a far higher responsibility, and each action has far wider and more dangerous repercoussions.
The rough comes with the smooth.
As for the economy I've never been through a tax rebate, and while in principle I think its a good idea to drive the economy, I have to question the wisdom of doing so in the current global market. In stormy weather do you really want to try and win the marathon, or wait until tomorrow when the sun is shining?

And in the company where I work they constantly **** up, just like today, the day before and the day before. Me and a collegue have had a unecessary ammount of work placed on us because the management are making things "better". Now with their new ideas we have fallen behind once again because of a management **** up. And to think they get paid way more than us:rolleyes:
thats why you better yourself and take THAT job, we all know you wouldnt mind making "mistakes" so the underlings have to clean it up. :D

Hell it seems the only way to get into management is to be incompetant and screw up ;) unfortunatly I take pride in my work. So I am doomed:D

if politicians would be paid by success they probably would hardly get anything. aint it cool if you can set your own wages and call it a democratic vote? cmon, you are lobbying for youself ;)
