Ahh great, now we cannot even back up our own property:rolleyes:

The MPAA can kiss my ass, unless they will give me a direct replacement for if it gets damaged I will continue to make copies of my property. I heard a company is taking the MPAA to court in America over this or something, any idea on how that is going on? Someone really needs to stand up to these suited morons:mad:

Vamp, I wouldn't be surprised if it's 321studios that is in court with the MPAA right now. They are the makers of DVDXcopy... I'm not certain of this, but I remember hearing something...

This is the quote I like:

Mr Valenti added: "The law does not allow for the copying of commercial DVDs, and technologies designed to get round copyright protection are plain unlawful."

They don't care if your backing up for archiving. But, if you lose your copy of a DVD and can prove you purchases it, are they willing to replace it for free. Or, what if it was stolen?

I think a lot of innocent people are going to get hit with the insane tactics of the MPAA and RIAA. If so, there should be some sort of restitution for these people...and, there is. Isn't there a little thing call double jeopardy? If you're tried for a crime once and found innocent, you can't be tried for that crim again. Oh...sweet...irony. What we need to do is get taken to court for file trading, but not be convicted on the grounds that the files we had were just really large text files. Then, we could download and share to our hearts content. Can't be tried again because we can't be tried again.

I know; it's a longshot; but one can dream.

You really don't know the first thing about law, do you? You can't be tried for the same CRIMINAL offense twice, but you can be tried for a criminal offense and then be tried for a civil offense (case in point? OJ).

If it's a civil case, then why are the RIAA and the MPAA getting the feds involved?

I dont think that would work. Thats like saying if you kill someone and dont get convicted, you can kill anyone you want after that. Or if a suspected drug dealer is proven not guilty then goes on to sell more drugs, he can still be convicted for selling drugs again, because its a different case, with different buyers\drugs.

File sharing works about the same way I guess.

And waitaminute.

Double jeopardy is prosecution for the SAME SPECIFIC CRIME. Have you been reading legal advice on Slashdot again?
