Anyone tried that Chrome Demo yet?

Yeah the graphics look quite poor in some areas..
its a bit like unreal2, but not as much fun, though I didn't get very far.. I'm on a sniper tower, and some woman appears and I've got to shoot her, but its impossible to see her.. She's just nowhere to be seen.. After dying several times I've given up.

You're not supposed to shoot her. She just sort of magically disappears. Look behind you (while you're still inside the tower) and you should see some guy shooting at you.

Once you kill all of the soldiers around, you'll get information about what to do next.

Your buddy says take her down, so while you're scouring the base for her, being shot.. its some bloke behind..

Hmm, another new first-person shooter demo, and yet again it's nothing special and rather underwhelming. File alongside Unreal 2, Devastation, Chaser, XIII etc. etc...:(

This one just feels like Codename Outbreak with slightly better graphics. Nothing really makes it stand out and the whole thing just has a kind of 'average' feel to it.

I beg to differ on the XIII. I belive this is the first cell-shaded FPS, and it includes some nifty elements that I've not seen in any other FPS.

it was a bigass download indeed (took me 15min for crying out loud :D)

but the demo was far from impressive.. it took me like 5min to figure out where the stinkin guard tower was ( couldn't find it.. i was looking for the sniper on top of that big complex ) and while i was running around the walls of the complex i got bitten in the ass by a local animal. (it's at the back)

anyways i quit once i got inside and coudn't open some crap door.

p.s. the AI was really impressive, they don't even run away when you throw a grenate next to them :retard: ...

Well, for me the cell-shaded look of XIII was interesting for about two minutes before I realised it just means it looks rather ugly and 'console game-ish' compared to most modern PC shooters.
And many of XIII's gameplay features and weapon ideas were done before (and better) in No One Lives Forever 1+2.
But, quite a few other people seem to have been impressed by XIII as well, so fair enough, I just think there are much better shooters available for your money. (And Chrome isn't one of them :) )

wow...u people in this forum are really crap at games...i downloaded it (took me 5mins :D (uncapped cable, 1.5meg a sec!!!!!!!!!!) and i LOVE THIS GAME!!!! i've played unreal 2, been there, done that, it SUCKED!! but for some reason i love this game. i think the way they die is really really cool.

MY TUTORIAL FOR PEOPLE PLAYING CHROME:

once u land, do the tutorial, follow the guy for a while. he'll say DAMN! sniper! then he runs, and makes u take care of the sniper. the tower is on the LEFT!! of the complex. run up the tower, kill the dude, shoot all the guys in the courtyard of the complex, then when the girl arrives, dont worry about shooting her. u can't. theres a guy behind u now! shoot him, and the reinforcements. ur partner will say "oh no! im gay! help me!" so go down, into the complex, and kill everyone n stuff. he'll say that he's stabbed u in the back and he's takin off in the ship, and u'll be stuck. can't find were to go. look for 3 big blue screens. use the middle one. click log on, then hack (on the right of the screen) and its just a memory game. then, go downstairs and the door will be open. go through, u meet up with some chick, then she unlocks everything, end up on the roof, shoot down the plane with the turret, (shoot the windshield of the plane) you'll hear girly screaming noises for some reason. go down the elevator, get in the transport thingies that are WAY too oversized, follow the path out of the area, run over some guys and follow her to the exit.

and there u have it. for all u noobs who suck at games n stuff. any questions?

I hate to rain on your 'Hooray-For-Me!' parade, but I don't think anyone else was stuck on any part other than the sniper-tower scene... which was all ready addressed.

that was the door that led to the room with the terminal in it yes, but since it wouldn't open i went one floor using the small elevator and that door was locked as well, when i couldn't find any switches there either i quit.

next time i tried it i simply waited there ( was getting me something to drink ) and suddenly my partner told me that i'm on my own now..blahblah

it wasn;t because i am crap (not this time anyway heh) but because it took a good 10sec before anything happened.

same with when you meet the girl, i was locked in the room and had to wait for some good 20sec before she entered... maybe i'm impatient or something..dunno but i didn't like that i had to wait before something happened.

well, in this game (as with many others) thers certain triggers. if u dont set them off, there may be a timer. in this case, the trigger is if u try to open all the doors, ur dude should say, hey i'm stuck....damn, then the chick will open the door. otherwise if u just sit there, she'll come through the door after a set amount of time. which is what happend in ur situation.

Just finished this demo. No new comments on the game play, the above posts said enough. I had stability problems with this game. It blue screen crashed winxp many times and I needed about 8 reboots to finish the demo, which makes me angry.

Anyone experience crashes with this demo?

This system:
CPU: Athlon xp2100+ (palomino)
MB: Epox 8RDA+
RAM: 512mb PC2100
OS: Win XP Pro
VID: GeforceFX 5800, 45.33 (and 45.24)

I had similar blue screen crashes with another recent demo called Breed, but otherwise system is 100% stable.

I thought you were on the level, just with all the FX bashing posts around, I wasn't sure. I upgraded from a Geforce3 and this FX was the cheapest, reasonable performing card at the time. Being the last in the shop of a discontinued product line helped it become affordable, I had been waiting for the FX5600 which turned out to be disappointing. Your ti4200 should be fine for all current games if you keep to <= 1024x768 and forget about AA. Your CPU should keep you happy for a little while too. Anyway, I'm getting way off topic now. I think this thread was something about Chrome? :)

I just un-installed the demo. I actually liked it. It kept me busy while waiting for HALO. Well it almost kept me busy :)

After playing the demo I won't buy the game. But it was better than BREED, which I was super hyped about but that demo let me down.
