Is Linux right for me?

Hello,
I am thinking of changing from Windows to Linux to get rid of bugs, the only things I do on computer is:
Compile C++
Browse the Internet
Play Internet Games such as Wolfenstein, MOHAA etc.

Could I do all this on linux bug free?

there are a lot of games that run under linux,
MOHAA is still beta yet,but runs very well.
And a lot of games that are not running
natively(like half-life or Jedi Knight II) will
work with wine or winex.

Thanks, I will web design until I can afford that computer, then go the library get lots of books on Linux and Mandrake, buy the computer parts, build the computer follow books guides on how to install Mandrake. Then install all the software (OO, MOHAA etc). Then I'll be happy :)

somthing wrong how you can play those awesome game on linux
I use red hat 8.0 and I want to play a game based on (some are quake 3 graphical based) open gl like DoD and a no-released: Star wars Jedi knight:

Here is a url, might give you some more info. I run both windows and linux (on different machines) and am impressed with linux running games like quake3 and unrealtournament 2003. I dont know about wine or any other program that does emulate windows under linux, but ny gues would be, that you would have performance loss since its emulating stuff.

Linux is not by far bug free, not any other piece of software available ANYWHERE on this planet. I could exclude here programs small enough like hello world (but is not such a sure thing - I saw myself bugs in these kind of progs :D).

And I said "by far" because I feel that any OS out there could not be bug free. Is a statistical proven fact that the bigger the project, more errors occur.

What I CAN say is that linux is far more often patched and updated than any other OS.
