I know the 2500K does not have hyperthreading but in games is there a $100 difference aas for as performance.

no ,
the 100 dollars give you extra bragging rights

So it is best to put it in a better motherboard.

If you can break the bank a bit id say go for the 2600k it will give you a few extra points in performance in certain areas with the 4 cores / 8 threads. If your on a budget id say stick with the I5 2500K it will give you solid gaming performance. they both have good O/C performance too i have my I7 2600k sitting at 4.5ghz.

For gaming, there is very little to gain from the 100MHz and hyperthreading. For video compression and other highly threaded workload, the 2600k gives a boost. Probably not worth the $100 though.

Both overclock very well.

Some game report better, smoother performance with HT disabled anyway.

Only reason I went with 2600k was because it only cost me about $30 more than the 2500k would have cost.

Ivy bridge is supposed to be only incremental, its biggest advantage being better integrated and lower power.

Note that the IB processor behaves as well if not better than the SB-E in those benchs, for probably 30% of the price, so not a great upgrade for SB, but still quite a nice value.

There is no real competition on processors lately, so expect stagnation and stable prices.

I need it to be cheap but good

Does the new 2500 overclock as good as a i7-920 did ,I know I had now problems running my i7-920 at 4.2gigs from day one .

run of the mill oc for a 2500K is 4.4 and 5 for a good one but I think that's the best 5% of those produced.

I was talking about a 2400 or a 2500 not a K and use the BLCK like on a i7-920,but from the reviews I have seen they do not overclock worth a damm unless you get the unlocked ones so you can ajust the multipler.something about how the memory controller is used

Reviews point to a 5% OC max through BCLK.
SB architecture does NOT like BCLK increase... The K series OC very well though...

you should overclock that b*tch. BF3 loves overclocked quad cores. ofcourse that means you'll have to play BF3 :o

lol... I do want to get some co-op in sometime, at least. :D

I've not ever tried to OC this chip, never felt the need. Bought it at the tail end of '09 and it's still more than I need.

Gotta' say though, I've been watching The IT Crowd on Netflix and it's consuming most of my free time. :p :o

yea i am really glad i got this CPU as well, although the Q9550 would have been a good choice too. but if greedo upgrades, i might have to upgrade too... i hate when that rebel nerf herder has a better computer than me...

For the price of a i7-2600K ,I could go with a i7-3820 and a 2011 socket motherboard for $30 more ,would that be a better deal since I have read that it overclock on the BCLK better then a 2500K or a 2600K.Most say they can overclock the BCLK to 125mhz or more and the 2600K does good to do even 5mhz over.

BLCK is irrelevant with 2600k, Sticking with what you do with the 920 isn't a good reason for anything.
If you only want to do 2 card SLI gaming I'm not sure you should bother upgrading cpu ect, I'd spend the money on graphics cards.
If you are planning on quad SLI PCI-e 3.0 **** then yeah do it.

My i7-920 or my motherboard gigabyte EX58-UD5 is bad ,it went though a very hot fire and I am surprised it lasted a little over a year before acting up ,I done tried new memory ,power supply and a different hardrive ,so the only thing I can think of is a Bad CPU or my motherboard since some of the memory holders were slitely melded. If the were nothing wrong with it I would stick with it ,but as it is I need a new CPU and motherboard .I don't like how the 1155 just has 24 lanes and the 2011 has 40 lanes, allowing for better upgrades.

What have you done or are planning to do with the 920?
