I'll 3rd that.
You guys do know this is spam? ;)
I don't see why Israel and Pel. posts should be banned. If people can't behave themselves then it's up to the mods/admin to decide their fate.
3rd of all UDawg, this is a privately owned forum but it is a public one as well. If you wanted to make a sticky/locked post asking the mods is the only way to go.
yah I fail to see why this is such a big issue...
whats the problem with israel/palestine threads ? I never noticed anything more in them compared to other political threads :)
eh... 2 posts in this thread... sry lads... I will try and control myself...

The problem is that people don't behave theirselves in those threads. It always turns into a slanging match, I don't paticulary mind those threads, what I do mind is having to sit here like a babysitter for when it eventually kicks off.

well... if it makes you feel any better... I am sure people watching your badger avatar working out will automatically be massively ammused and think happy thoughts :D

Sad thing is that I have enough time to babysit them, if you ask me to. :)
Why not just issue temp/perm bans?
PsychoSy threatened me with one for a lesser thing, so I don't see why the mods (beside Sy) have gone all soft.
I have not yet witnessed anything that I would consider an offense worth more thatn a warning. Please elaborate.
Oh, and putting a fox in charge of the henhouse is always a good idea. :p

Could not agree more, maybe this should go in feedback, but the best mods for political discussions would be those not involved in them.. Even if it is un-intentional a persons bias is going to influence their decisions.
Here comes the reason i think this should be in feedback, but its something i want people to see as to regards to how personal views/agendas can influence the running of this board.

That thread to me was nothing more than a discussion which was 50/50 for a while until the mod in question descided they had, had enough. If anyone else see's what is suddenley so out of line please point it out. I really think we either need more mods, or more impartial moderating decision making. Its not my place to say how, thats up to Mike I guess.
Do people agree or just not care? Just a thought

You are wrong on that, we have our own opinions but we don't let them get in the way of our work.

PsychoSy threatened me with one for a lesser thing,
I didn't see it that way...
so I don't see why the mods (beside Sy) have gone all soft.
LMAO!! I haven't banned anyone yet! Came close a few times but I've always hesitated on banning someone because I simply see it as on option to be used as a last resort. Truth be told, if I sense I might have to ban someone, I bring it up with the other mods and MikeC first so they can give their opinions on the matter privately in our own forum. How many times have I done that? ONCE! Was that person banned? Nope! Why? Diplomacy! If any moderator thinks that diplomacy is worth another shot, I'm all for it because, as I said, banning is something to be used only when all acts of diplomacy have been used and ultimately failed.
Good grief, I'm probably the softest mod here! :p
As for the topic at hand, I vote no and always will. Pidgeonholing a particular topic because people can't behave themselves is all the more reason to keep the topic going. There's been many social topics in life where at one time, it was taboo to talk or debate about them because they were so heated or controversial. So the people that couldn't handle it wanted to keep shuffling the topic under the rug and never wanted it to be brought up. It's like taking a teakettle full of water, setting it on the stove on high heat, and the cementing the blow hole. Sooner or later, the pressure will mount and the teakettle will blow it's top.
When Rosa Parks said, "I'm ain't moving", the teakettle blew its top. When one movie star said in a film, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn", the teakettle blew its top. When the verdict of Roe Vs. Wade was handed down, the teakettle blew its top. The bottom line is if we cement the blow hole over the Palestinian/Israeli conflict in this forum, we're just going to be minor contributers of a much bigger and a nastier beast that, in time, will spill over into court rooms and living rooms all over the world. Sooner or later, the teakettle will blow its top again and we're gonna be sitting here stupified muttering, "Doh, wha hoppen?!??!" just all those times in the past. If we aren't going to learn a damn thing from the past, we're just gonna sit here and repeat the abominations all over again continually until we do.
So what's it gonna be, America?
Now...or later?

That thread to me was nothing more than a discussion which was 50/50 for a while until the mod in question descided they had, had enough.
Newsflash, that was my thread and I decided to close it. Other users have asked to have their threads closed in the past. The thread was already way off topic and was going no where so instead of beating a dead horse I closed it.
I really think we either need more mods, or more impartial moderating decision making
Wow a thread gets closed that you were taking part in and suddenly you think we need more mods. Many threads like that have been closed in the past simply because they were dragging on a off topic issue and getting no where. It doesnt suddenly change because it affects you.

You mean like the times I have edited and warned liberals on this board too for stepping over the line? If you break the rules you will know about it I don't care which party line you tow. Of course it's probably just hard for some to accept that we try to be as fair as possible. And we have enough mods;)
Edit: This of course is a non existant issue brought up just so a couple of people can have a good old cry about nothing. Whatever makes some of you happy I guess ;). The fact is the system for moderating we have is fine, it has always been fine since we started and it will not change unless Mike decides to make lobotomys nV News standard:p
"Should Palestinian & Israel threads be banned from this forum?" No, it'll just spill out onto other threads anyways.
More mods? There are already 7 people listed for offtopic/pol. Thats not counting 4 admins. For a forum with this traffic, that should be more than adequate.
Wonder if this is angling to be a mod. Be careful what is asked for. http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/hmm.gif

Now who's the one putting words in peoples mouthes? Newsflash: I've thought this for a while and Incoming Report: I just mentioned it
News Just in: Denial and trying to bury an issue won't make it go away.

Well you can have your little conspiracy theorys but the fact is they are not true, we moderate tot he best of our abilities. When I am here as a moderator instead of a user I put my political beliefs to the side and get my job done. The reason why we have so many mods is so we can liase on things and perhaps get something that another mod may have missed.
To quote Udawg the political forum is self moderating and as such we have hardly done anything in this forum since it has been opened. There is such a thing as a pm, if you have a problem with a moderating decision then you use that, you do not start making your problem public. And if we were truly biased why have I defending the views and opinions of the right so many times when they were flamed by other users, especially some new guy we had a while back.
Edit: and if you wish to continue this do what other users do and use the private messages
Now back on topic, Psychosy is in the guard tower with a barret .50 just waiting for the I or the P word to be said.

Re-read what I posted. I said let the mods decide if it should be banned. The poll was just to let them know how this forum felt about this issue. I just possed an open question to see what people thought.
I am going to do my best to stay out of those threads.
That's what I meant but I was only responding to this comment you made:
"DO NOT POST COMMENTS"
I meant that if you didn't want people to post comments you could ask a mod to lock your thread and leave the poll open.

I'm not sure if that can be done, by a mod anyway. I think if you lock the thread the poll is closed too.

I can ask JuiceZ to do it?
If UDawg wants to of course.
VBB should be able to do it.

Well they are not going to get banned so it's bit of a waste to go to all that hassle for a poll:D

It wasn't that I wanted it lock. I just wanted it to be a poll thread and not really a chat thread but I knew full well every one would post here because it said DO NOT. LOL Joo know every one sees that as an invitation to post. :p :D
No big deal. Now This thread should be in the open forum. :p
