The following notes are from the audio portion of NVIDIA's conference call with Tom Peterson and Bryan Del Rizzo covering the GeForce GTX 690.

Benchmarks will begin to appear at your favorite web site very, very soon.

Performance is expected to be "very close" to that of the GeForce GTX 680 in 2-way SLI.

Absolutely the best GPU that NVIDIA has delivered.

Records were shattered for the time, effort and money that were invested in the GeForce GTX 690.

No plastic parts.

Never before used, albeit expensive, materials are part of the GeForce GTX 690 - glossy look, cast aluminum and magnesium.

Magnesium injected GPU and relevant connections allow LED reporting.

Clear, scratch-resistant polycarbonate window.

Nickel-plated vapor chamber.

Low profile device.

Ridges cut in baseplate for greater control of airflow and turbulence.

First time ever SLI scales 100% - GPUs were always thermally challenged, but not the GeForce GTX 690.

Clock speeds take advantage of the GPU Boost feature.

"A beast compared to the competition" with a 6 to 9 month head start.

Most power efficient GPU per watt (PPW).

Dampening materials for acoustics make the GeForce GTX 690 "quieter" than the GeForce GTX 680 in 2-way SLI.

A 915MHz default GPU clock speed increases to over 1GHz with GPU Boost.

Designed for overclocking as GPU clock speed approaches 1300MHz.

Each GPU operates independently. One shuts off completely and the other enters a low-power state as needed (for example, 2D Windows GUI operations).

Absolutely the best performance and acoustics.

Hard launch!

The GeForce GTX 680 is in short supply due to high demand. NVIDIA is making sure that as many GPUs as possible are being manufactured.

Powers up to three 2560x1600 monitors running at 120Hz.

More exciting products and bleeding-edge services are forthcoming...

Update: Tom Peterson touched on micro-stutter during the conference call. Looking over my notes, I see two comments which go something like "the declining quality of those frame rates" and "more and more time not connected to the frame rate."

So yes, NVIDIA invested the time to substantially reduce or eliminate micro stuttering.

The cooler design looks amazing, I want it just because of the materials it is made out of!

I'm surprised how they are pushing the 690 compared to previous dual GPU cards. Usually the 680, 580, 480 series are the flagship, anything higher is just for fun.

I'm still waiting for local pricing, but if it's under 1000 I'm all aboard.

Wow, what a beautiful looking card. Love the metal!

It is gorgeous, and vaguely threatening. I wouldn't know whether to put it in my PC or have it surrounded with tanks.

I am planning to buy the GTX 690 nvidia beast and using it exclusively on Linux.
But the latest beta Linux drivers (300 something) do not seem to officially support this card.

Does anybody know when this official support will arrive?
Till then I do not buy this card and I will be waiting.

EVGA.com (http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=04G-P4-2692-KR&family=GeForce 600 Series Family&sw=) is taking pre-orders anyone is gonna do it?

Will newegg have the same thing later?

Its a really nice card and all, but I just don't understand why you would release something you cant make enough of.

You cant even buy a 680 right now....and its not looking good down the road, I'm already half way to a 690 by being one of the lucky ones that was able to get a 680 ;)

I think they should of waited until there was a decent supply of 680's...before releasing another almost impossible to get GPU.

I'm not sure a card, that costs $999 will be that hard to get :)

Not that I'd ever bother with dual GPU again, but for others on the fence, maybe take a look at this. It's in german, but the graphs are very self explanatory.

I checked newegg this morning just for kicks, they had some but now it looks like they are sold out already. The price $1199.00 that is crazy! more expensive than two GTX 680s and I would still rather have two 680s!

Two 7970's are cheaper and perform better...

Two 7970's are cheaper and perform better...

True, but many sites like HardOCP and Hardware Canucks are reporting that the 7979 in Crossfire looks superior on paper but in reality SLI feels better than CrossFireX, it feels smoother, and is more fluid?
I can't really comment either way since I don't own a 7970 crossfire setup to test for myself, but at least they are available to buy unlike the 680/690s. All i really want is a new driver from Nvidia for my GTX 680 SLI :D
