if you have GF2 you could upgrade to GF4 ti card..that would be nice upgrade and those cards arent to pricey now....and they have linux support....

i searched asus website

there is no geforce 4 ti card for agp 4x !!! wtf !!!! all are 8x :(

my system has a 4x slot & that all & i am not going to upgrade my motherboard for next 2 years.

4x - halflenght, provides 3.3 volts

what shall i do ????

also,

gf4 ti 4100 is opengl 1.3 / directx 8

while fx 5200 is opengl 1.4 / directx 9

what should i do ???

the ti4200 will kill the fx 5200... A far better card, even when the current situation wasnt brought to light, the fx5200 was a G4 MX replacement, the 5600 was the 4200 replacement.

So plain and simple, a ti 4200 is better than an fx 5200, even the ultra.

4200 is definitely faster than the 5200. In fact, the equivalent to the 5200 in the GF4 generation would rather be a GF4MX (I don't mean they run at the same speed, just that 5200 is a low-end like the GF4MX was).

edit : you beat me to it Viral ;) .

where should i buy the card from ?

i live in san jose california

can i get a better deal on price if i can skip the games they bundle with it (sort of OEM box) ??

You probably ought to buy it from somewhere other than CA so you can avoid paying sales tax. Try www.monarchcomputer.com to start, or browse www.resellerratings.com to find some of the best resellers.

And don't buy an FX5200, the Ti4200 will do much better.

The only thing a gfFX5200 does better than a gf4Ti is DX9. And that is because the gf4Ti doesn't support DX9 ;)

gfFX5200 is roughly on par with a gf4mx.

the FX5200 is NOT a DX9 card in any meaningful way.

ATI cards now have linux drivers.

No 3D support, though (I think). I heard there might be a complete Linux Catalyst release before the end of the year.

"When are new nvidia cards are going to see light ?"

More importantly:

When is Nvidia going to see the light?

By this I mean, will the next card be all smoke and mirrors like the NV3x series has been or will Nvidia get it right this time and produce a killer card that does what its supposed to do without special "optimizations".

I am seriously going to be very very carefull evaluating Nvidia's next generation card especially in light of what has happened this time around.

I would suggest anyone who is thinking that their next card will automatically fix all of this generations problems to do the same.

Whats the point of this flame? I mean seriously. Did it help this guy in any way?

here's my take on this:

If you have a GF2, and wanna game better, and you want new features, and you wana be able to play the new games of Xmas/Tax time 2k3/2k4...

Ditch the GF2, spend $50 on a GF3, and enjoy the healthy increase in performance for the next few months... let the industry level out a little bit and wait for the next gen cards from nvidia and ATI... Then, since you saved $$ by getting a GF3 (great DX8 card), get a *new* card this winter, after spending a couple months becoming more informed on the great battle of the big bad video card companies... ;)

Sorry, I always plug GF3's for their price/performance ratio... :)

It was not meant as a flame. More of a statement of disgust with the current situation and a statement of mistrust of the next generation.

Nvidia has lost my trust and it will take sometime to repair and I was a strong Nvidia supporter for many years (GF2, GF3, GF4 Ti4600).
