Hyperthreading..........Wow

Damn.

I just started encoding a video using my 3Ghz P4 and noticed no noticeable speed drop. I checked the CPU load and it was only 30-50%!

Hrm, I wonder what happens when I fire up a game WHILE encoding......

So, I fired up RTCW. Although the levels took slightly longer to load (a few seconds) framerate was within a few of what I normally get at 1280x1024. 70-90FPS with all settings maxed.

The vid took about 45 mins total to encode WHILE I was gaming.

Damn, I knew I switched to Intel for a reason. :eek:

I am curious if anyone has tried encoding on their AthlonXP's and doing anything at the same time. Does it noticeably hinder speed? ie is it just the fast CPU or the Hyperthreading that I am noticing here? :confused:

From the reviews I've read the AthlonXP still beats out P4 in terms of encoding speed, but I'm sure the cpu probably takes a 'lil more of a beating than its intel counterpart. I'll test it out tonight & let you know.

I wish I had a HT P4, it is definately a plus factor we dont see in reviews.
