It was the open letter, as well as the fact I mentioned that nVidia have stopped all R&D on SoundStorm.
Not sure how it can be old news though, seeing as it was only published today.

Sorry I must be clueless.
On a side note I thought that the letter was less than wonderful. I mean ABIT/ASUS/ others don't care if we buy Nforce or via chipset they just want to sell boards I think he should have emphasized that if any mobo maker has a SndStm product then everyone will flock to them and be willing to pay a premium. If every mobo co. had them then people would be willing to pay extra to get the functionality just as we do now...
I was hoping MzxPayne2 would be in stores today I wanted to pick it up on the way home ah well.
Hmm well like Hanners I don't know how this is old news... I was sitting on the information till today. At the present time unless the motherboard manufacturers are pressured there will be no more SoundStorm after nForce2....
The last paragraph concerned cost, community and desire....
But ah well everyone's entitled to an opinion...
Let's just wait and see what happens...
This is what I was reffering to, and that is why I was confused when this was said to be "new" news, I thought something exciting, new, and good was happening :) ah well.

Our contact is on NVs audio team.

As others have noted, and as I will now confirm, there will be no APU/SoundStorm integrated into any nForce 3 products. The FAQ explains our public response on this.

In any case, I gladly accept any efforts you wish to provide to get audio back in the products. Personally, I can tell you our audio team is a bit down these days knowing that all we have to work on is soft audio products.

All,
here's the rub: I can't confirm that we're doing one because, honestly, we haven't commited to building one. We've floated the idea but unless the demand is there we won't make it. We've heard some noise from a few manufacturer's but they are waiting for consumers to tell them they want it.
So, from that point of view, anything you do to create demand for something will aid in it becoming a reality. At present, however, I cannot say absolutely that we will ever build SoundStorm again, stand alone or not.

hehe... our own research at nfHQ is backfiring... damn knew we shouldn't have kept peeps informed ;)
The main point of this letter is that it has been emailed not just to a 'few' news sites but to the partners direct... it is only the start of showing them what SS meanss to NF users and how they can win a lot of public trust/hearts even with a PCI-Express solution.
Jimbob, heh... I did not even make connection at first, that it was you...
Anyway did you see what I meant in my "criticism" of the letter?
I.e. that you should emphasize the fact that they could make more money, instead of just the heart+minds b/c most of them don't care much about that.
Of course if Nvidia themselves did it I think that it could redeem them from some of the angst people feel against them.
"The key reason I purchased a nForce2 board rather than wait for an equivalent board from a competitor was for the SoundStorm audio......When the time comes for an AMD64 upgrade I see little point continuing the nForce path without the audio ability highlighted above."
This for example they don't care if you want an nforce or a via chipset which is the "competitor" you reffered to or at least they will see it that way.
I am just saying that the part about the loss of sound storm making you not want to upgrade, and the part about being willing to pay more is what will really perk their ears up.
This part
"a) They will jump ship entirely from AMD and switch to an i875/prescott combination.
b) They will go with the fastest Athlon64/FX motherboard rather than features… at this time the
result could well be VIA and then a separate sound card (such as an Audigy) moving away from
nVidia totally.
c) If an integrated NF3/SS solution is available then this will be purchased.
d) If a NF3 PCI-Express based motherboard is available with a SoundStorm PCI-Express card as an
add-on this will be purchased.
"
a) they don't care if they sell mobos for AMD or Intel
b) they don't care as said above
c) Good point
d) Good Point
I am not trying to be rude and I actually appreciate it alot, I have digital out hooked to a receiver and I don't even have 6 analog inputs so it is soundstorm or no surround for me. I just am trying to help form a clear statement that will go farther to swaying them instead of just inform them that the enthusiasts think it is a "cool" feature.

My theory still is that they will slap on a soundstorm on PCI express video cards. Why?
Its possible with pci express, it has more bandiwth than you can shake a stick at.
Gainward includes soundcards with their video cards, so there must be some kind of crazy market for it.
and it ads features.

Glowstick: Let me make this NICE AND CLEAR... I am a moderator at nForcersHQ, the author of that letter and a beta tester for the nVidia nForce drivers. As such I am often in contact with the nVidia nForce driver team and I have it direct there is no development of SoundStorm hardware - PCI-Express or otherwise - right now... and unless the partners request such a development (based upon user desire) there will be no such developments.....
Sxotty: Heh, didn't sign it with my screen name... but yep it's me - got more to come in the next month or two. I agree it appealled to the hearts a bit too much - you should have seen the first draft.. it was even worse ;) But the mods, admin, NV guys steered me onto a clearer path... the next part I will make it appeal direct to their wallets nice and simply....
Actually, given your sensible, well-phrased and logical criticism I would welcome your input when I do my next part..... If you PM me email/IM details I'll send you what I have as I produce it.

I hate creative labs also. I have a Aud and it not in my system now because of stability problems and such poor drivers.
I'll NEVER buy a CL soundcard again. This is my last one.
I'm using the built in realtek 655. At least it does not crash me out.
I sure wish someone would make a nice soundcard with great driver support.

hmm... this is awesome news, if it is true. My last sound card was the Creative Labs PCI128, and i kept having problems with its driver installation!!!! grr...
hmm... I had been using C-Media ever since b/c they are so cheap... lol... and don't have any driver problems (yet).
Finally, a decent audio offering!!!!

2) nvidia graphics
3) nvidia sound
LOL

I also hate creative because of their shotty drivers.I've found the Audigy 2 series drivers to be decent-certainly not crappy.
As for the bloatware some folks keep mumbling about...well don't install it.
