With a budget of around 200 what are the reccomendations for new speakers? I'm not after life altering here, just something future proof thats a cut above what gets shoved in the OEM packages :)

...and no arguments pls :)

Try these (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?action=info&sku=115663&p=&t=865&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=11&GrpID=2&cks=PRL) dont think you could get much better for the price.

I would say logitech Z-560's, or 680's if you can get them for that price

These (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=41261) are what I have. Cheap and do a damn fine job and the bass unit is just as powerful as all the more expensive logitech sets:cool:

Edit: Oh yeah and they are bloody loud:D

i dont know exactly what 's equate too, but i think there are $3 to the right now.. AUD anyway..

I have Altec lansing 641 4.1 speakers... specs in my sig. They really have some volume.. i have never had to push them past half way, and that was way to loud :)(think house about to fall apart, almost serious here) the two 6.5" sub's are very powerful and create clean loud bass.. the 4 satelites have very clear treble which in stereo x2 mode can more than match the bass, so neither is drowned out. 400watts RMS all up with all four satelite speakers and both subs.. so thats in stereo x2 mode.

Only downfall is the 4.1.. obvioulsy for surroud sound, 5.1 or greater would be better.. but i mainly use mine for music, games and the occasional movie.. For music they are perfect! gaming they are good enough, same with movies.

They price for around $400 AUD, so rough conversions inducates they should be -200...

If you want 5.1, go klipsch promedia.. they are a little more exie, but the sub's are larger(8"), the tweaters are smaller 0.75" and the quality is better... (not that mine dont sound better than just about anything i have ever heard!!)

For the price i am very happy with mine.. if you are into music, you should like them. If you are into surround you may find the klipsch's are worth the extra.. i plan on buying klipsch promedia ultra 5.1's when they are released and go down in price a little.

Altec Lansign 641
The amp/sub's are about the height of your average midi tower and are not magnetically shielded, so you'd want to keep it under your desk away from the monitor. Just as long as its under i found it fine. You wouldnt want it on a desk anyway... unless you want cheap force feedback that is over dramatized.

Once you get these you wont want to listen to music on anything else.. unless it's better:D but thats not very likely ;p especially for the price. I can't emphasize enough how loud, crisp and clean the sound that comes out of these is for the size and price. I had a set up like those logitec things before these.. all i can say is these are 10x better for a little under 5x the price :) and easily worth it if you are into sound of any type.. even if you dont think you are, these may change your mind.
