View Full Version : Thermalright SLK-900A (Socket A) or Thermalright SLK-800A (Socket A)
I have an AMD 2200+ Althlon XP and an Asus A7V333 ...
Which of the two heatsinks should I get, people keep telling me the 800A is the best, but surley the new 900A is better.
Thermalright SLK-900A (Socket A) (HS-010-TR)
Thermalright SLK-800A (Socket A) (HS-003-TR)
Anyone have any comments?

I'd say go with the SLK-900 since you can also fit a bigger fan on there than with the 800. And for thermal compound you will get Shin Etsu damnit:p
Shin Etsu can be found here (http://www.chillblast.com)
I have the SLK 900a with a delta 80mm Fan on it, and it works well, I have overlcoked my Barton2900+ from 2.08ghz at 333mhz fsb to 2.3Ghz at 400mhz fsb by dropping the multiplier. The temperatures reported while idle are aroun 39 degrees C when idle and around 50 degrees when fully loaded! Not bad considering i was getting like 60 degrees Celcius with my old hsf which was the coolermaster hvac 81 of something. I also am using Artic silver thermal compound. Dunno exactly which though! But, I really like my SLK900a, only thing that will displace this baby is a Asetek or Prometria phase change cooling setup! :D

You heretic MUYA!!:D Try some Shin Etsu, your temps should drop by a few degrees:cool:
Can't get them stuff here mate, I found this artic silver thing by mistake most folks here use crappy ones, Coolermaster one or if they can find it paste like artic silver. I dunno if they have whatever is it you said here in Hong KOng.

I have an SLK-800 & it is superb but if I was buying right now I would go for the SLK-900 as it will fit on all cpu sockets so you can use it in the future with an Athlon64.
The A's i would say are a little risky.. really to heavy for the clip mounting IMO.. but if you are fine with that, go with the 900A.. i just ordered a 947U..
I have heard that the 800U's fit 92mm fans also.. not sure about the 800A, but the main difference between the two is really only the size. The 9xx is a little larger. Anyway, any SLK 800 or above is overkill for light overclocking.
