Battlefield 1942 & vid card upgrade

Ok, here's the deal.

I've got a P3 800, 512mb sdram (aka slow down ram), and a geforce2 gts. I've played the mulitplayer demo quite a bit, and although the performance I was getting was about what I expected. I had pretty much all settings turned down to the lowest. Most of the time, I sit in the 20's-30's, but sometimes I get down into the teens, even single digits.

Upgrading the cpu/mobo is out of the question right now; I have a Dell which uses a not quite standard power connector so that means i'd need a new case, new ram, etc = too much money.

One of my friends has a GF3 (not sure if its a Ti 2/500 or original recipe) that he doesn't use. Based on all that, if I could get the gf3 for like $50, would it be worth whatever increase I get?

For $50, heck yeah. The main difference u will see is higher quality settings will not drop as much in frames. And when u do upgrade your mobo your frames will increase greatly. The key word is the price that u will be paying for the GF3.

GF3 for $50 would be a fantastic route to go.....

I'm sure your performance would increase enough to justify the cost....especially in other games as well....

I'd say, go for it!

( and maybe look up some software FSB-overclocking utility like SoftFSB or something..... ) :p

For 50 bucks, sure, go for it. And the Geforce 3 is still a great card; most games these days are CPU limited, and with a new CPU, it should be able to run every game out there at 1024x768.

Hey your machine is way faster than my p3-650, Geforce2, 512mb pc100. And my machine runs that game very smooth on low detail. Try making sure your sound quality is set to low and sound channels few. I have heard that makes a massive difference.
