I just realised that the new Game profiles stuff in the Cat 3.8 drivers is Application specific optimisation!!! We're in deep dodo now.

Good point, but these are USER CONTROLLED application specific optimizations....big difference. ;)

Ask me in about a half-hour, I just got done downloading 'em but I'll have to go pick up my son before I test 'em out. (He HATES it if I play with new drivers without him, he's a pretty interesting 6 year old. :) )

Sure is true. Although, its not like a window, where you pick your game and select from a list of NVidia-esque tricks like...

hmm, yes for Counterstrike, I'll have...

No fog: Tick
Use Clip planes: Tick
Use HQ textures: Untick

It just remembers customised levels of AA, AF, texture quality, and so on.

I must admit the Smartshader feature is cool. Watch any scene demo, and it gives it a whole new slant!

Here's a normal 3d program with the green ascii shader enabled!!!

I just downloaded and installed them, wont be gaming today though.

A question about those effects though, will my games look that "freaky" if i enable those effects? :|

Edit: Couldn't resist trying those effects. And ****s those are some funny freaky stuff ^_^ :)

I know this thread was started as a joke. Don't let it turn it into a flamewar or else it will be closed immediately.

I am sooo tempted to just write "You're ugly and your mother still dresses you funny! ;)"...but I fear an imminent banning in case you're having a bad day. :|

As a sad note do these actually work? I looked and it did not seem like game profiles, but "profiles" which you would have to select, I would like to set it so that Quake3 based stuff runs prettier automatically b/c it can and newer stuff runs uglier and faster b/c it cannot keep up if all the bells and whistles are on.

AFAIK, It's not automatic *yet*. At the moment, it's simply a store of the settings. IMHO you don't even need the D3D/OPENGL control panel. You just set it all HQ and change the resolution in game to get the proper performance. That is how I have played ever since the first radeon. :)

Based on my personal preference I find resolution much more important than all the AF/AA filtering so for me that is not an option at all. But if I were in your shoes I can surely understand.

well since the 9700 pro died, I've had to move the 9600p AA down to 2X. :)
