Steven Sinofsky, President of Windows and Windows Live Division, is leaving Microsoft effective immediately, reports All Things D (http://allthingsd.com/20121112/breaking-windows-head-steven-sinofsky-to-leave-microsoft/).

The move is claimed to be a result of growing discontent within the software giant, with a number of executives reportedly unhappy when working with him (http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57536905-75/steven-sinofsky-microsofts-controversial-mr-windows-8/) due to his failure to be a "team player." Such a move has striking parallels with Scott Forstall's recent exit from Apple (http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/10/forstalls-exit-from-apple-conflict-with-execs-jubilation-from-employees/).

Sinofsky held his most current position (http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2009/07/sinofsky-promoted-to-president-of-windows-division/) since 2009, but joined Microsoft more than 20 years ago (1989). All Things D says responsibility for Windows will now be split between two of Sinofsky's reports: Julie Larson-Green, who'll head up Windows engineering, and Tami Reller, who'll take care of the business side.
