Can you post pics or tell us about the cooling solution? I'm very intrigued by the massive thing... Also, tell us about gaming with the thing!!!

The sink/fan on this 5950 is HUGE! It is almost the size of a socket cooler in depth. It takes up the entire 2 slots thickness and it is a finnned like sink with clips like a socket A.

So how loud is it in relation to the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra or Radeon 9800 Pro (if you've used ATi)? How much faster is it in games than the 5900 Ultra? Noticably faster?

I don't know yet. I'll install it tonight after work.

Couple of comments thus far. It is quieter than the 5900 Ultra and cooler. I immediately clocked the card at 500/975 and it is 34C at idle. I also do not notice any mouse wheel beeps that came from the 5900 Ultra. I am running a few loops of 3dmark03 as I am typing this.

 So the upgrade to FX 5950 costed you only $39

nice impressions...

With what you said in mind, skoprowski, I'm baffled as to why nVidia released the card at a mere 475 MHz core speed... I mean hell you have it OCed by 25 MHz and it's still a fair amount cooler than a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra at STOCK speeds.

Unfortunately I don't plan on getting a 5950 Ultra if only because I know how horrible the AA looks (i.e. text looks blurry as hell).

Well, I got 6057 3dmarks on a Athlon XP 3000+ system. Only about 100 points higher than my 5900 Ultra clocked at 500/900. The strange thing I noticed is that the memory overclock will not stick after I test and set it. Everytime I reboot the mem clock goes back to 950 but the core clock stays a 500- strange. I did check the apply at startup box too. The good thing is that the card is quieter and cooler. It only got up to 48C after running 3DMark a few times. It is now idling at 34C. I'll be gone the rest of the evening. More testing tomorrow.

I can't understand you people, how you are buying B.S. from Nvidia over and over again....

So, you are saying that because you got only 6% over the 5950, we people here are buying B.S. ?

What is B.S. by the way? :afro:

Well, I have it, from COMPUSA.

Told the clerk that BestBuy was selling it for $399 instead of Compusa's $499.

So she priced matched it, no phone call.

Take a chance, huh? FX5950 for $399.

Yes, I walked briskly out of the store.

Eh? He walked out of a CompUSA with the card for $100 less.
There was no "call" or "verification" on what he told the clerk.
She just rang it up for $100 less than the real price.

I guess lying pays. Anyway, the 5950 was not in any of my local CompUSA stores. I'm not sure it's been released yet. Maybe this person is lying about having one? Lying seems to be O.K. nowadays if it helps a person get ahead. Just ask some former Enron execs.

I don't condone stealing.
I don't condone stupidity, either.

That said... if the clerk was REALLY that stupid, I find it funny.

If I were a store clerk, I wouldn't "adjust a price" to "price match" without checking, or asking the manager, first.... even if there was a long line.... and if it was the manager... he / she was double stupid for not checking.
(That is, if what this Venturi guy says is true, or not)

SAD, that was not very polite.

I guess you find something wrong with paying a 100% markup instead of 130% markup.

You're right, I should not have asked for a price match, I'd better return it and pay double the difference for theirt trouble.

NOT

By the way, I counted 22 boxes of the 5950. Mine was 23.

I didn't see it as lying, I saw it as an oppurtunity not to pay $500 for a video card that in 30 days will sell on pricewatch for $399. Let me guess, this will follow 20 posts and flames over what the right price is and how I could possibly take advantage of a poor cashier. Enjoy yourself, I abstain from the slinging that goes on on this post, I simply choose not to participate.

Sorry if you were unable to get one. That's not my fault.

However, you should try to be more polite.

I hope you find one and that you get a price break, good luck to you.

Have a nice day. Share some mirth.
