The difference with a 9800xt and a 9800pro is very small to say

As about CPU Hellbinder choice

Nice :)
I have already the CPU that he is going to buy
and some other new things...I may change the memory to 2.0GB DDR 400 soon

I do not reccomend a Athlon 64 cpu with the Current INTEL P4C...is nothing so significant (not talking about the FX model )
It's better leave some new technologies to mature to become better (plus drop in price) than just going buying them when they FIRST RELEASE in market...

Anyway INTEL will release the PRESCOT in a few months so many things will change AGAIN...

I held off on Athlon 64 becuase The of the price..

I got the P4, Mobo, 1G ram and the sata drive for 800$ from my local guy who sold them to me at 15$ over his cost.

The Athlon64 system was 850$ without the SATA drive.

Mobo set me back 180$

:afro:

No, just the plain vanilla IC7. I like to start on a new adventure slowly. :D But it is an excellent board with the 800MHz FSB and HT capabilities. It really runs good with the 2.4C.

Like bkswaney, I will be looking closely at SATA to see how it develops. Back to an Abit, its been a while, since my Via exploits.

850$
Yikes!!!!

You made a fine choice with buying a P4C for now :)

AMD is not so cheap anymore
plus you would need Windows 64 that have not released yet

Anyway the Intel Prescot will come and i am sure the current AMD 64 price will drop for future purchase

Notice I am not posting in the graphics card forum? Still working on the 'care package' thing I got a couple of weeks ago. The package might get sent back to its owner in a couple of weeks. I hope.

EDIT: Please note this is not any commentary on any video card, driver, or other like product.

crazy when you think about this...

The 120G 7,000RPM SATA drive was 135$

The 40G 10,000RPM SATA drive was 115$..

I just cant wait to do a complete fresh install on this baby with the new mobo/proc/Ram and Fire up SWG that first time... http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/laughing/yelrotflmao.gif

To bad it will be on this GF4 Ti 4200... http://burns.thefinaldimension.org/contrib/aahmed/azcrying.gif

Just a few more days.. few more days... I hope... http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/wink/thumb.gif Yeah My two WD raptors in raid 0 You won't believe how fast I can format the drives.

Hey.. system installed and running smoooth... :)

I added another SATA drive.. Could not help myself. a 120GB 7000RPM SATA. Using the 40GB Raptor for my OS and core programs, Like SWG ;) , and the 120GB for data etc..

Now I just need the return of my XT :)

A word on performance...

HOLY $%&#

I cant believe the insane improvement in SWG with this system. Its freaking unreal. even with my GF4 Ti 4200 I am running the game at 1024x768 all Sliders to 75% and getting upper 20's low 30's. That is an INSANE Jump from the 18-21 FPS with everything as low as i could set them. SWG loads like in 60 seconds now.. before it was at least 2-3 Min from Start to in the game.

This system is going to Rock so hard once i get my XT back.

Umm Hellbinder you wanna get rid of those RDRams for a resonable price?:D

Hmmm... maybe I should pick up a Raptor.

And I still don't think you've told me what server you play on, HB (I've been playing on Tarquinas lately, but I could easily be persuaded to start a new character :p )

Another Word on performance....

I reinstalled battlefield 1942 and Road to Rome. With this system and the GF4 Ti 4200 playing at 1024x768 on High in game settings, the FPS counter bounces between 98-100 FPS nearly all the time. Even on maps like battleaxe. In fact the lowest i have seen it go was a dip to 78 and that was a split second. I swear to you this is not an exageration its over 90 FPS even in big Fire fights. I literally yelled HOLY **** and nearly fell out of my chair.

This GF4 has been in my friends system for the last 8 months or so. He has a 1.4G Athlon XP system. Battlefield ran at about 75 FPS average on his system. with dips into the 40-50 range. My P4 2.4 system with my old 9700pro averaged about 75-85FPS at 1024x768 with 4x fSAA+16xAF.

That is how much this hyperthreading CPU has boosted the raw performance of even this aging GF4. I honestly have no idea how fast its going to be with the 9800XT Feeding off it....

bah, stupid AthlonFXs not having HT... why can't I have x86-64 AND HT?

and I thought we all knew that BF1942 was ALWAYS CPU limited?

I have settled on a Reptilian dude Brawler. Boy is this guy fun to play. I am going to go the whole hand-to hand path with no weapons use at all. So far i have completed my first 2 skill blocks in HTH. Then ill do that hand to hand combat master path.. Some wierd name..

My dude is Xasskriz Sortzsi and he is on Naritus.

Its just really impressive to see just how much a massive CPU upgrade will push that game. Sure you can "know" something is CPU limited.. but its an entirely different thing to KNOW Its Cpu limited by seeing the difference and falling out of your chair.

hmmm that reminds me... I need to download Riva Tuner again and get my GF4 overclock back.. It runs at 300/300 no problem.
