In the meantime while I await the return of my 9800XT I have ordered some upgrades to my system.

-3G P4c 800mhz FSB HT
-Abit IC7-G MAXX2 mobo
-1G DDR-400 Corsair ram
-40 Gig 10,000 RPM Serial ATA drive.

I could have ordered a 120gig 7,000RPM SATA drive.. but opted for the more expensive per MB 40 gig drive. I hear that the 10,000 RPM SATA drives have ludicrist speed :)

Of course i got the Abit board becuase it is a great overclocker and is based onthe I875 chipset. I am looking to run the CPU at 3.2 or 3.4 nothing to crazy. I pick up the parts from my local CPU shop on Friday morning.

Should make my XT a really happy camper..

Sounds like a nice rig. I am itching to upgrade my cpu myself but no one is selling anything significantly faster for a realistic price IMO right now... I'll wait till the price cuts intel is rumored to be doing in a week and see if then it is a good deal. (Of course I still will get an AMD chip (I need digital encoding) I just want a faster one but Intel will force AMD to drop their prices.)

And here I thought you bought some lubricant and some :condom: for your 9800XT so it can hit it off big time with the motherboard. :p

Did you sell your old comp, and how much did you get for it if you did so?

I was thinking to do upgrade too, but I wish I know how much I could price my rig.

AsusP4T533
768MB RDRAM PC1066-32bit
P4 2.8Ghz 533FSB

This board can run P4 3.2 even EE version. The board supports the P4 3.06 which requires the same voltage like P4 3.2 800FSB and P4 3.2EE as well
I can overclock northbridge up to 200Mhz, that's not a problem.
Also I can setup AGP/PCI speed through BIOS independent of FSB bus speed. The my only concern is memory. Does PC1066 can handle 800 (200Mhz) FSB? If can I don't need to buy anything else but new CPU otherwise the system is dead fish.

Those new parts will make your XT REALLY happy, Hellbinder. Be sure to post lots of benchies once you get everything working.

I'll probably upgrade my box once the new Athlon64s that don't require ECC come out. Or Prescott. I simply don't have the money to upgrade my processor at the moment.

I agree, nice upgrade HB. I've got the IC7, first Intel since about '94. Its a refurb but runs very well with the 'C' proc. The processor cost about as much as my NF2 board and Barton combined. Still, I like it and the board came with everything though I won't be using the SATA right away.

Should be an excellent setup for the XT. :)

I am really looking forward to seeing what this 10,000 RPM SATA drive can do. I have seen a couple in store demonstration models on P4 2.4c systems. MAN we are talking instantaneous load times in windows. BAM.. done.. Crazy..

crazy when you think about this...

The 120G 7,000RPM SATA drive was 135$

The 40G 10,000RPM SATA drive was 115$..

I just cant wait to do a complete fresh install on this baby with the new mobo/proc/Ram and Fire up SWG that first time... http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/laughing/yelrotflmao.gif

To bad it will be on this GF4 Ti 4200... http://burns.thefinaldimension.org/contrib/aahmed/azcrying.gif

Just a few more days.. few more days... I hope... http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/wink/thumb.gif

Looks to me like your system is almost the same... You have a 10,000RPM SATA Drive also.. and a Gig of DDR-400 Corsair ram and new P4c..

I dont think there is much more "Upgrading" beyond what you and i have.. :)

I checked into Athlon64 also.... but decided to hold off a bit on that platform.

Why hold off on Athlon 64, HB? The Shuttle A64 nForce3 has started calling my name, and I need reasons to resist.

TheOneKEA

Because the Athlon 64 is single-channel. Never mind that it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference in benchmarks when compared to the Athlon FX with dual-channel ECC, but I think Hellbinder wants the Athlon FX with dual-channel.

Wait until January 2004 for Athlon 64. It will shift from a 940-pin to a 939-pin CPU that doesn't require registered RAM. The motherboards will also be cheaper as they will have less layers. Also you don't want the current NForce3 150. You want the upcoming NForce3 250 - much better performance.

And who knows. Maybe by then MS will get off its butt and release WinXP64 for desktops :)

Looks like a nice upgrade and whats better than some new toys to play with in the winter? ;)

And about the A64. No doubt that it's a very powerful chip and the games just fly, but i'd wait for the San Diego chip as someone already mentioned.
