I would go with AMD, but I prefer the 'whats with these stupid polls' option
Talk about beating a war to death. hehe

Yeh, the last option seemed a better alternative :)

I have been an AMD guy for a long time now like starting with my K6-2 400 all the way up to my last one I put together which was my T-Bird 1.4 that I ran at 1.6 with a 266a DDR MB but I gave in to the big time overclocking and speed that the P4 has and put together a puter with a Epox 4G4A+ MB that has the 845G chipset with 333 DDR surport and the 533 bus and drop in a P4 2.26 that easily went up to 2.77Ghz and I got my DDR to run at 407Mhz (it is Corsair 3200 ram) an gained over 1,400 points in 3DMark2001 with my GeForce 3 200 I went form 7,300 with the AMD to 8,750 with P4 and the P4 2.26 is about the same price as the AMD 2200 plus most socket A MB don't even have surrport for it so I decided to move over to Intel for now(beleave me I didn't want to give those money hungry basterds at Intel any of my money) but I didn't want to wait for AMD anymore to catch up to them and I plan on move back over to AMD as soon as the Clawhammer comes out;)

I guess I choose the third option, but I think at this time since intel offers the best in overclocking it would the one to get at least until amd can get some higher clocked processors.Does anybody know if they are going to come out with something higher than a 2200+

Are AMD chips going to get any cooler? Their next gen chips would have to be cooler dudes. There is no way I would look at an AMD chip if it's going to be running hotter or as hot as they are running now.

Yeah, I don't know. I'm running an XP1800 right now, at 2100 - with air cooling. Then again, I have a Delta screamer :) on a Dynatron 1206-BM0 solid Cu heatsink ... 62 microfins, great performance, but loud as hell. I'm also using an older Palomino core, which has a larger die area for greater heat dispersion. Anyway, the noise from this fan is ridiculous!! That is part of the reason I'm moving to Intel for my next rig (in 1-3 weeks), you just can't beat 500-1000MHz oc'ing with a stock (read: quiet) hsf!! Besides, at that kind of speed, any IPC advantage the XP has over the P4 becomes a moot point.

edit: but I still chose the third option ... :D

I WANT amd, but I HAVE Intel

AMD is much better bang/buck.

Intel is overpriced garbage ATM.

Although The Pentium III CUmine is one of the best CPUs ever made.

I think the adverts for Intel should drive anyone to AMD

"The pentium 4 at the heart of your digital world"

whoa whoa whoa what did you say? *smack* Mr. Dell advertiser person do you have any idea what your talking about? *smack* now shut up and throw that P4 in the bin:D

hahahaha

agreed.

While I like Intel more as a company, AMD simply has the superior product out now.

As to Barton....I have no idea. It's all rumors to me atm.
Hammers will have integrated heat spreaders, and I don't know about other enhancements in that direction.

Heat has always been one of AMD's biggest problems.
