Hi there, i don't know if this is the right place to post this... but still.. i own a GF3 (the classic one, 200/460, 64MB) and i saw this Saphire 9600Pro (the regular one, not the fancy pipe cooled one) Bulk (without box) at a lovely price of 135 USD (actually Euros, but you get the point)... how much of an upgrade would that be, considering i'm quite short on money, and although i'm somehow satisfied with the GF3, i know is growing old...
would it make such a big difference??

Yes.

Anything else you read in this thread will just be an extension to that one word.

I had a vanilla GF3 (240/530, not QUITE vanilla after a bit-o-modding ;) ) and went to a 9500 Pro and it was just a quantum leap type of upgrade!

It was like going from an old V3 to a GF3, THAT big a leap....'cept bigger.

Do it, do it NOW! You will not regret it. :)

As others have said... YES!

I used my daughters 9600 Pro for a week before I installed it on her machine (For her Birthday).... It kicked the crap out of my Geforce 3 Ti500. So it'd defiently trounce a regular Geforce 3. It impressed me enough to buy a 9800 Pro for myself. ;)

Taz

///the GF3 would give the 9600P a SERIOUS indigestion problem...///:p

the 9600P cannot DIGEST teh GF3, for the GF3's OpenGL performance (and performance in a few newer games) is pretty much on-par with the 9600P...

:D

Yes, 9600P ownz with AF/AA... BUT you may see some games and situations where the GF3 is in the same performance class...

The GF3 is just that dang strong, and IMO cannot be classified as a weak card just yet...

No, I'm not gaming with mine anymore, but I know their strengths... :)

Yes, my opinion is "go with the 9600P" ... but be warned... depending on the games you play, it may not seem too much quicker...

yeah i kind of noticed that looking at some reviews... where the TI4200 is at the same speed or even a little over (just in very few cases, but still) the 9600Pro... and since the gf4 4200 is not 100% faster than the gf3... don't know... may be i'll wait for a while till 9800 prices drop here in spain... and take a go with a real REAL card :) i don't know yet ;)

Well... that was my delema too. I wanted a "bigger" jump from my Ti500, than what the 9600 Pro offered. It's STILL as sweet card for the money, and a "decent" Jump from a Geforce 3.

I was targeting a 9800 Non-Pro. If you are lucky enough to find one in stock, and not get stuck with an "SE" from a shady pricewatch vendor, they're going for about $250 online now.

As for my 9800 Pro... I bought it at a retail store.... Here's why:

There's simply no competition in 99% of games, and certainly any game you are likely to play that isn't CPU-limited. 9600 Pro dominates the GF3 (and usually the GF4, and GF4 is always faster than the GF3).
