Just got my BFG 5950 and my initial impressions a pretty positive. I mainly play EAsports games. Madden 2004 and Tiger Woods 2004 look amazing at 1600*1200 and they run ultra smooth. Upgraded from a BFG Ti 4600 and the increase in performance is pretty good not earth shattering. I made the jump because I had some extra cash right now that I could spend so I went for it.
System: P4 2.4 533fsb
1024mb Corsair PC2700
BFG FX 5950 Ultra
40gig Maxtor HD
Hercules Fortissimo II Sound
Sony 21" E540 Monitor:beer3:

I just got my EVGA 5950Ultra and so far I really like it. I am currently playing Halo and Planetside and it runs these games fine on my system.
Congrats on your new card:firedevil

Glad to hear everyone is liking there 5950's.

My 5900U will be here friday. I waited on the 5950 to
buy my 5900u. "big price drop"

From what I was reading my Asus should OC to 5950 speeds
no problem.

Now is a good time to buy 5900u's. ;)

Shouldn't be that much of a difference between 5950 and 5900.

You were talking about the article by penstar system right?
I thought it is an excellent article.
You should be reading it carefully with an open mind.

Um... I have 2 new ideas for you ;)

Full Scene Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.

As in.. If you Turn them on you will suddenly see a HUGE improvement over your old Ti 4600. Plus it you get the added benefit of it looking better

Sorry fellas, i just could'nt help myself. Whenver i see someone who says a card like the 5950 or 9800Xt are not much faster than a Ti 4600 i suspect right away they are missing the whole point of owning one of these cards...

I agree that the article seems to be a bit pro-nvidia, no doubt about it.
However it does explain the caused behind that leads to the current situation in the 3d graphics industry, particular ATI and NVIDIA.
Although there are some speculations.

About the future, it is hard to predict as of yet. NVIDIA might have a slight advantage in more experience in 0.13nm, but who knows if ATI gone straight to 0.11nm sooner?

In summary, we will get a clearer picture next march.

I agree HB... When I said I did not care on AA I guess what I mean to say is as long as AA helps I'll use it but it's not a must for me. ;)

I do like my AF tho. :)

Congrats on the new card! I noticed that you have the same monitor as I do, which supports 1600x1200 at an 85Hz refresh rate. Have you tried that setting when running 2D in Windows?

I normally use 1280x960, but last night enabled 1600x1200 and I would say the quality was good enough to use on a daily basis. But I have a hard time with the smaller text and am going to try out the large fonts option when I get home from work.

You might want to run some of those games at 1920x1440 at 75Hz. I've found 2048x1536 to be playable in certain games, but you have to drop back to a 60Hz refresh rate.
