There's an option in the new RivaTuner for NV40 emulation. Can anyone shed some light as to what new functions the NV40 supports? I'm not saavy enough to examine what new function this mode exposes but I assume someone on this board might?!

I don't think anyone knows... although I vaguely remember hearing about some ATI GL extension that was supported (no, I'm not joking).

It may be the new support for OpenGL 2.0 shadder functions. But i dont know what that would have to do with Nv40 at this point. Currently the 9800pro fully supports the OpenGL 2.0 preliminary specifications.

Are you referring to the GL shading language HB? IIRC thats gonna be introduced way before OpenGL 2.0.

NV40 emulation will contain among others.

NV_fragment_program2
NV_vertex_program3

Thats in OpenGL. Its a fair assumption that it will support PS3.0 and whatever the next vertex shader in DX is. The one that allows texture sampling in vertex shaders (programs).
