there is an easy formula dude

1000/2.2 = 454Mhz = X2 = 908mhz DDR

1000/2 = 500MHz = X2 = 100DDR

Thatsthe rating, of course these cards are always shipped with lower clocks to give headroom.

Using higher rated memory may boost the costs of the ATI series to make it unaffordable...thats the only reason I can think of.

Yep... they make more money using slower memory.

ATI has always used slower memory than nvidia.

It also raises power consumption, which OEMS dont like, and Ati has said that they do whatever they can to please them

Well, I don't see any oem's not using nv cards.
Plus NV market share is still higher than ati's.

I think it's just a ATI saying to cover them just being cheap
on the memory.
