Need a video cutter/splitter

Anyone know of any good (preferably free) programs that can split/cut AVI movies? I've been trying my hand and ripping/encoding DVDs since I found some firmware that unlocks the full speed of my DVD-RW. I need to trim some excess stuff from one of the files, but some of the shareware programs I tried either 1) have an interface that's way too complicated or 2) do stupid things to the movie, for example All Video Splitter flips the entire movie upside down when it splits.

Any help as always is greatly appreciated!

You could try Easy Video Splitter and Easy Video Joiner for your needs. The programs are extremely easy and light on demands.

I've done a fair amount of this myself, and VirtualDubMod (http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/) has proved reliable and up to the job.

I was about to suggest VirtualDub, but I don't know this VDMod... I'll check it out. :)
