Ok, We are all mature Adults (well, I'm not) so we all know the difference between lag and a low frame rate. People who don't irk me.
Lag is caused by a high latency, or ping, if you will, to a network connection. (i.e. and online game) This results in warping, freezing, or any of the annoying issues.
A low frame rate is caused by a lack of system power, resulting in dropped frames and stuttering gameplay.
Thank you for reading this public service announcement.
NOW GET IT RIGHT. please

Wait wait, I don't understand. I tried playing Doom 3 with my K6-2 450Mhz and I was getting terrible lag, I could hardly play. I wish they would get a faster network connection.
hehehehe :p

So if I get a bigger power supply I'll get a higher framerate? :eek2:
;)
Check your PM.
You know what else causes stuttering gameplay?
Having to synchronise your connection with the server every couple of seconds.

Something that's been bugging me too. My roommate has a nice case with those tri-color 80mm LED fans. He and everyone else call them leeed fans, how I phonetically spelled it. I call them L-E-D fans. There's no god damned second E that would be required to pronunciate it LEED.
I remember when my brother in law got a Dell, a 1.7 P4 w/ GF 3. He couldn't understand why it BF1942 played so much better on my P3 800 w/GF 2. Because im on a cable modem and you are on AOL dialup dude!
Oh yeah, lets not forget the other common confusion of harddrive space versus memory. "this application says I need 128 meg of memory, but I deleted a bunch of files today and I have over 1500 megs free!"

But guys! You should know that in some games (or all games?), if you have a very high framerate, you could lag online! For example, when I played Q2 online, I had to limit the framerate to nearly 60 fps. If I played at 100-150 fps, it would be unplayable.
I hate games that send info for each frame instead of at a constant time rate (16 ms for example).

That's right; capping your framerate with some games will actually decrease your lag. Some Q2 gamers I know cap their framerates or use vsync; anything over 75 is a waste anyway :D
I agree completely. I have this one stupid friend who think's he's smart because he overclocks his computer and plays CS (we'll just call him, oh, Andrew), and yet everytime he gets a skippy framerate he complains about getting LAG! Framerate issues, stuttering, choppyness; any of these would be fine references to low framerate, but NOT lag! At one LAN I told him "Uh, that's not lag, lag is something you get over bad connections", and he was like "Well, everyone calls it lag, so you all know I'm talking about framerate when I say lag, right guys?" And everyone shook their head...stupid Andrew.
However, there is ANOTHER type of lag that's not related to the internet, and that's mouse lag. You usually get that when your pre-rendered frames is set to high and it takes part of a second for your actions in the game to respond to your mouse movements. But even then, refer to it as MOUSE lag, not just lag. And yes, the memory thing is also annoying, but luckly only total computer n00bs think of it like that.
Oh, and more games should be like Half-life in the way that they let you set how many updates you send/recieve per second over the internet. That would've been very handy in Planetside, I just know it was sending way more information then it needed to on my 56k...

That's the one that bugs me the most, too. I hear that one all the freaking time and it drives me up a wall.

I think I would have real trouble keeping a straight face when my friends said that, and I KNOW I couldn't resist correcting them rather sarcastically.
It's a bloody abreviation! You spell it out. ("No way dude, it's not any "light emitting diode"...it's a LEEED!")

I share your pain, I've had more than my fair share of that one.
