Man i just got the bottle to install the 3.8's a couple of hours ago lol
No word on the Call of Duty problem? The games due out very soon too.

Heh, i just reinstalled winders on my PVR(aiw 9800p) machine so i could have a clean install of 3.8, but i guess ill install again so i can have a frsh 3.9 system.
oh btw, i have had a probelm with 3.8 where the wdm drivers refuse to install, any reports of this happining?
so far so good.. only problem is the performance problems with nfs underground still exist when using shader effects (motion blur and light trails) the game is unplayable with them on, but on the 5900 ultra machine at work, its smooth as ever.
more than likley its ea's end for poor optimization on all cards.. but maybe the final game will be improved:)
hopefully this will fix my problems with the new mmc and playing games :D

Uh... NFS Underground plays as a pretty constant 30ish FPS for me with every single detail in the game turned on and set to max. There is an occasional Dip into the 20's.
I would hardly call that unplayable.

well at 1280x1024 its dips into the teens.. on the 5900 machine it looks as its around 40fps or so to my eye.
just curious because ea has had a bad history of not tuning for ati cards.
Thats due to them selling whats remaining of their sole to nVIDIA oh i mean that nVIDIA optimisation agreement "TWIMTBP" EA Games make some great games it's just they are buggy as hell.

Use FRAPS 2.0 and get some exact numbers on performance. Thats What i did to measure mine.

Any word on whether these drivers resolve the FSAA and control panel issues? I'm talking about 1) setting FSAA to 2x results in it displaying "Application Preference" in the control panel and 2) setting FSAA to 2x, playing a game, then changing it to Application Preference or any other mode keeps AA at 2x unless you reboot your machine.
same problem as with the 3.8's
bleh... :p
least the 3.7's work...

I have allways hand something silimar, if i change the aa or af setting its not applied untill i reboot
then if i had aa on and its working, then turn it down for a diffrent game, or turn it off it dosent turn off or down untill i reboot. hanet tested 3.9's yet though
light trails and blurring on:
2003-11-05 11:37:52 - speeddemo
Frames: 242 - Time: 14312ms - Avg: 16.908 - Min: 14 - Max: 20
light trails and blurring off:
2003-11-05 11:42:06 - speeddemo
Frames: 389 - Time: 10515ms - Avg: 36.994 - Min: 32 - Max: 42
keep in mind the game maxes out at 40
but on the 5900 machine the hit isnt nearly this hard.

hmmm.. This does indeed look like it might be an issue where the game is being advantageously coded to FX hardware. OR doing those specific features the way Nvidia "Recomends" it.
Will be interesting to see how this Turns out.
Hopefully its not that and just a driver issue. Bacuase then at least there is Hope for a fix. If its one of these developer buddying up top Nvidia jobs it may never be dealt with.

NV dev rel probably wrote the shaders, and stuck a SIN op at the end that doesn't do anything... :D
(SIN takes 6 or 7 cycles on an ATI card, and 1 on NV)

there is a simple workaround for it. set your Image quality to balanced which turns off Anti Aliasing and then customize your setting to boost the AF. since the m-blur / light-trail FX renders the AA inoperative this will not hurt IQ.

You know.. I actually Completely Believe that. In fact this is exactly the Kind of thing Nvidia is pulling with the custom shaders they are writting for STALKER.
This kind of thing is sooo irritating. Its one thing to support the standard better than the other guy and recomend everyone follows it. Its an entirely different matter to put things in that are not part of the current standard that affect nothing for the sole purpose of Screwing over your Competition.
