Well I finally orderd my upgrade, a XFX 5900. Last week this thing was $350 now $200. Perfect, I was going to get a 9800 Pro I found cheap but this I think will be better deal being I can wait for next years new gen cards to drop a little then being confident in upgrading. If I had gone with the 9800 Pro I dont think It would be an easy or smart choice to upgrade from there but with this it seems more sensible. Just have to unload my Ti4400 for about $70 to my friend and this was $130 upgrade.

Also here is link to that cheap Built by ATI 9800 Pro I found $325 if anyone wanted a good deal.

$200? not bad not bad at all. That the MSRP for FX 5700 Ultras right? I would definately take the 5900 over 5700 Ultra :D

Yeah, I'm not at all sure what happened with the 5900. They seem to have dropped like a rock (good for us, at least! :) ), and one would THINK to a point that would make the 5700U almost irrelevant. I may be the card showing the best gains in a long time, but I don't see how it can compare to the 5900 at the SAME price point. o_O Only to confused consumers, I guess. Seems to be a lot of margin-cutting going on.

I was always keeping track of the 5900 non-Ultras versus 9800 non-Pros (my preferred area for strategic card purchasing), but it's become REALLY hard to track down 9800NP's now--their numbers are dying off and the SE's confuse the matter. -_- Ugh...

I also don't quite get what you meant by it not being easy or smart to upgrade from a 9800 Pro in the future, but I guess that's a question for a different forum.

You couldn't have gone wrong with either the 9800 Pro or the 5900. Just a question - is the XFX 5900 the Ultra or vanilla 5900?

Does make yah wonder why the 5900(which gets 3000 more on the bench from 3dmark2001), be just about as much as the new 5700ultra

It makes me wonder if Nvidia have plans to drop the 5900R.

I think more prices are going to drop very soon on everything. If you take a looK there just too many cards by Nvidia at the moment. Not sure if it is a good are bad thing. This is what I see in a couple weeks.
1-FX5950 $375-$400
2-FX5900U $300-$350
2-FX5900 $200-$250 about the norm as of now
4-FX5700U $150-$175

Seems logical, no?

Wow! That's a good deal! However, makes me wonder how much nVidia would make profit for that kind of prices...

It seems they are going to try to get a deeper market penetration no matter what it'll cost. It'll be good times ahead for us hardware freaks if the competition still tightens. :)

gorgeous looking card you have there! Let us know how it compares to your old TI4400, that's what I have and I'm curious to see how much better then FX5900 is: benchmarks and real world gaming please. And what's all your other system specs? I gotta admit, a FX5900 for only $200 sounds like an amazing deal! Where'd ya find it? And finally one more question, is the card relatively quiet compared to your TI4400?

sin can u help me out i want to buy this today

Ruff maybe I can help

256 bit on the memory

You should be able to replace the fan it is a whole set every thing comes off when you unscrew the hex screws.

Mine has ran at 475 / 950 not tried it any higher highest temp I have seen on it is 51c

My score in 3dmarks are 4400 with a AMD 1700@2000 so it is running with the 9700 and 9700 pro range. I have ordered a thornton AMD 2400 for
Xmas an with that and the FX 5900 I still have a few bucks left to get something else compared to what a base oem 9800 pro's are going for.:D
I need the extra cpu power for FS 9 anyway. Hope this might help you.FX 5900 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1584970)

thx Line01 i order it to day. so u are say the fan is not part of the heat sink right and this is all u get with 3dmark03 whne i had the 9800 pro not OC i get 5000 score and if OC i get around 5600. i hd to RMA it becuase they was some worng with the card if i had my rig OC it will restart on it own but if i had my rig and default sett it will run nice. it was ok if i oc the card but not my system  one more think what is the default for the mem 800 or 850 thx alot

S.I.N
11-16-03, 10:47 PM
Sorry I was at work. The default is 800. I think you can remove the fan, but why? XFX made it custom with a fancy design over it and it looks as if they did a good job. It quiter with a bigger fan than my Ti4400 with a smaller fan. Its a great settup and I dont think you will have any problems though. It even has a back plate sink like the Ultra's and comes with an oc guide from XFX them selfs so I cant see you having any problems. Good job on XFX part, they did not go cheap at all everything down to the box and games shows care like MSI products.

Also keep in mind even though everything else is on the up and up there warranty is not clear cut. There are no papers, no nothing just contact your pine branch in your country.
