why noy anymore?
no
GF4 doesnt support n-patches. It has Rt-patches in hardware which cant work with current games and games made for it wont work on other cards. Im not sure if its still in the drivers
If the GF4 had a n-patches support it was in software = slow
n-patches = truform
It's nVidia policy to stand firm against N-Patches.
According to them, it's simply a bad technology and has way too many problems to be really usefull.
I'm not inventing any of this, it's in the DX8 Performance paper on developer.nvidia.com

That is unfortunate because more and more games are supporting this and people do notice a nice improvement in lighting and model smoothness increasing IQ. That is when done right. RTpatches will never take hold because only RT patch cards will be able to use it, meaning Nvidia own cards being sold as in the GF4mx's would not be able to support games that have it as well as all the other manufacturers out there that don't support RT patches. N-Patches make allot of sense, not hard to implement, has great benefits and doesn't break old hardware and allows the developer to easilily give high polycount models to people with hardware that support it.
Also N-patch is a DX 8.1 and DX 9 component which you say Nvidia will not use nor support , which tells me Nvidia is not going to support displacement mapping because N-Patches is also a part of that as well. Looks like Nvidia is taking a number of wrong turns here.

Actually, nVidia WILL support displacement mapping but not N-patches.
I don't really know how displacement mapping is dependant of n-patches... Where did you learn that?
Would give you the quote, but nVidia website is AWFULLY slow. I'll edit this if i can find it.
