When two marketing monkeys get together, theres no end to how wonderful everthing is. Someone should make a "review the marketing monkey PR stuff," this is just too wrong, its almost a lie and PR crap like this should not end up on a front page on a popular news site. Brainwashing it is, no less.

Painkiller takes advantage of the feature sets and performance of today's newest graphics technology, more specifically NVIDIA's GeForce FX family of GPUs, to achieve new levels of texture detail and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques.

reailtime shadow and perpixel lightening can be very impressive, but i hope "PC nvidia GFFX" version looks less dry and "unreal tournament" than this screenshot (http://www.gamershell.com/imagefolio/pic.php/gallery/FPS/Painkiller/Painkiller075.jpg). Wheres the bumpmapping?

Based on the proprietary 3D "PAIN" engine, which is able to output 100 times more polygons than other games in the genre, Painkiller also relies on the raw performance of NVIDIA's GeForce FX GPUs to achieve blazingly fast performance to keep gamers in a world of non-stop action.


GFFX 5900 ultra outperforms R 9800 pro regular "T&L" but not vertex shading (maybe since its (over)clocked so high). In any case higher polycount is always welcome (http://www.gamershell.com/imagefolio/pic.php/gallery/Action/Max_Payne_2/screen14.jpg), but painkiller screenshots tell another tale.

their "proprietary 3d engine" is i guess optimized for GFFX architecture then, I wonder if they optimized/coded different render path for radeon also, or maybe its not nescesseray (they didnt use any PS 2.0 effekts maybe)

please, dont tell me this games graphics are the "cinematic quality" nvidia spent many dollars (http://jooh.no/root/omg_3dcards/GFFX_lies/cinematic_graphics.jpg) to market. wait it goes on:

The way its meant to be played. Any definition on that saying other then zero PS 2.0 effekts and no HL2 support? Obviously nvidias self confidence seem low these days.

Meh, marketing is marketing. This is nothing neither new nor noteworthy. Just like all those games that advertise "Designed for Intel" which makes people think they need to have an Intel CPU to run the game, this is just the same kinda thing with video cards. Not to mention ATI's deal with HL2, they're advertising a game working best on a card when the game might not even be out until the NEXT generation of cards are released. What's going to happen to all those 9800XT users that bought their card just for HL2 when they see a shiny new 10700XV benchmarks that show it running Half-life 2 twice as fast as their 9800 card? If you're going to make your buying decisions based on marketing, you deserve to get ripped off. Not to mention I'm assuming that anyone who's buying a 5900 card for Painkiller wouldn't even notice the better performance anyway.

hehe , yeah game is not special... at all from screen shots , looks like Hexen or Doom in Serious Sam type of run n shoot em all :p

Todays games should have big photo realistic Textures aka Max Payne and lots of shadow effects like doom III :D

This game looks very promising. Looks like serious sam only with BIGGER bosses and karma 2.0!!!
I'll take a fun 20 hour of Xploding over 5 hours of a chick-flick (which is Max Payne 2 :D ) any day!!! and the graphics look extra cool

Never heard of this game before til I saw the notice on the front news here.
I think the game looks great.
There are signs of pixelshading in the shots (tho very hard to see on the one you actully linked to), volumetric fog ... weapon model (youll see if you watch the video ... best weapon shading Ive seen so far)
Shading on the undead models are also good ... good highlights etc.
These things can be hard to see in a screen shot as the trick to great gfx is to not over do it *hehe halo anyone?*.

Looks like something Im going to buy :D
I really like serious sam. Relaxing mindless killing, and the game dosent hide that fact ... its based on it ;) ... it dosent pretend to be something it isn't
I hope this will be like that too

The second movie is actually kinda funny but i just can't stand these kind of games. Sure, it might be fun for 10 minutes but then what?
