Hi all, I'm looking for some help selecting the right memory for my new machine. My current setup is a p4 2.0a with P4T-E Asus mobo, 512MB RDRAM, GF4600 video.

I've decided to build the new system around Asus P4C800-E Deluxe board and P4 3.0 CPU. Beyond that I'm stumped. Too many memory choices, too many video cards and some of the prices on NV FX and ATI boards are ridiculous. I'm not into overclocking, and prefer stability over price/speed issues.

I would really appreciate some suggestions on picking the right memory first. I'd like to spend no more than $300 for 512-1Gig of memory.

Thank you
Fatman

You looking to go 512MB on the P4C800-E or 1GB worth?

Because from what I have read 512MB: $152 Corsair TWINX512-3200LLPT (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=20-145-432) is the way to go! :D

But for 1GB: $214 GeIL Golden Dragon Dual DDR 1GB (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=20-144-603) is not a bad choice either.

Peace,

:D

*Edit - Or some 1GB: $289 OCZ Dual Channel Optimized DDR PC-3500 High Performance (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=20-146-885)

Whatever is the best chice for about $300. I'd like to have more than 512mb, but in the end I'd rather have good 512 than crappy 1GB.

The memory I am using is fairly good. It was listed on Asus's recommended list. I got it from Dell too...lol, the only place I could find it. I got it because I thought I might add 2GB of memory but have since then decided against it.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A0118498&c=us&l=en&cs=19&category_id=4325&page=external

But that should be the correct url for it, and the SKU# that Dell goes by is also listed in my Sig as well along with the timmings I currently run it at and all.

I have just hit 3.6Ghz with stock HSF and plan to go as high as I can without raising my temps any from when I had it at 3Ghz. :D I can only top out at 265FSB because with a 5:4 divider, I would have my memory running at 424Mhz which is about it for this memory, especially with these timmings... well 430Mhz is actually.

Peace,

jAkUp! You are watercooled now huh! You suck...lol :p When you gonna push that badboy up to 3.6Ghz like me? :D Currently, I got a 257Mhz FSB and up the voltage to 1.6v to prove a point initially to Dazz, but since the voltage didn't raise my temp.. I decided to keep it there. :D Keep in mind that I am still using retail HSF and AS3! Sweet huh? :D

Well, you should get higher than 3.6Ghz for sure now... but atleast you know I am hitting it now and I made the adjustment to my Sig as well. Take a looksy at the CPU-Z pic in my Sig too. That temp reading is after running 10 loops of the Nature Demo. :D

Can't wait to watercool this rig!
