Hi

I have GF4 MX 440 AGP8x vid card and was wondering if anybody here know if its ok to use in older BX type MB with older voltage spec's. MB is 2x tranfers.

MB is ASUS P2B ver 1.10 BX Slot 1 chipset and vid card is a Chaintech GF4 440 MX 64mb AGP8x

I can just try but don't want to hurt MB or vid, can this card support older MB's with higher voltage slots, I think its 3.3v/5v .

thanx in advance, any help /info be good

Did you ever get any information on this? I have similar questions about 8x capable cards being placed in older motherboards. I have a motherboard that I know supports a GF3 Ti200 and a GF4 Ti4600, but these are both only 4x cards. If the card is keyed (notched) with BOTH notches, does this mean that it works in older slots?

Thanks,

Larry

I borrowed from a friend his MX4000 AGP8x card just to test this on an old P2 LX chipset motherboard which supports only AGP2x. LX is the chipset before BX. It worked fine, as long as the card's AGP has 2 notches. But your milage may vary, I would suggest updating the BIOS to the latest version.

If the card looks like this, then it should work.

Hi

thanks for info, I was only worried on voltage an my card does have the 3.3v slot like pic you posted.
I also got more info after that the card did come out of a BX chipset and worked fine. this card is a GF MX agp8x card.
so all should work ok, funny thing I haven't had time to try it out yet.

thanx for input

I have a 4x AGP card in my 440BX mobo right now. There shouldn't be a problem.

I too have had 4x AGP cards in older BX motherboards -- it's the newer 8x cards that I was concerned about. As far as I can tell, if the card is double keyed (i.e. if it has the two notches) it will work in the older slots. In other words, if the card fits in the slot, it "should" work. I've read about a handful of cards that were keyed for older slots yet didn't work in them, but these seem to have been exceptions.
