I'm currently running a GF3 ti500 on an Abit KG7 (non-raid, max of 4x AGP). I have one 512 DDR 2100, processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2000. My system is fine, running mostly everything without any issues at all. I'm willing to spend about $200 bucks right now on a new video card. Granted, most cards are 8X AGP these days, compatible with 4x.

I'm looking for recommendations. I found this card for a good price, read a few reviews and have mixed feelings about it.

BFG Technologies Asylum GeForce FX 5900 128MB DDR AGP Graphics Card for $199.99

Honestly, would this be good for my needs right now?!?!?

I haven't kept up to date on the newer cards coming out, like DDR vs. DDR-2 so I'm looking for solid suggestions for a new card. I mostly play Day of Defeat, CS, BF1942 and Call of Duty. Throw in Max Pain II for kicks :D

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions...

You will definately see a nice jump in performance. I jumped from a gf3 to a radeon 9600 pro and it was pretty nice jump. So I'm sure ull get even better performance. Now u'll be able to paly games at high res and no jaggies :)

5900 non ultra... GREAT CHOICE!!!

However, your mobo (though some may decree it as too old of a solution) would SEVERELY benifit from a downgrade in the form of an XP1700 T-BredB... oh, and some PC2700 RAM. The 5900 would greatly benifit from an increase in bandwidth... and your chipset IMO is somewhat capable enough... I have heard of KG7's reaching decent bus speeds... if it's not worth the effort, try and rid yourself of that mobo ($30-$45) for at least a higher end kt266a (KR7A series), KT333 or KT400... ($40-$55)...

Good luck!

The deal of that Asylum is sold out at $200 (grrr.....)

What about the XFX NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900 128MB DDR 8X AGP - Model# PV-T35K-NA....it's around $200 bucks these days. I know about BFG, XFX on the other hand I'm not so sure about....

OK, it's between the BFG at $225 or the XFX at $200. What would YOU pick???

Just check the RAM and core speeds. If they're the same as the BFG, you're peachy.

If you can score the BFG, get it. They have a real no hassle life time warranty on their cards.

That is a tremendous price/performance ratio on that card. I wouldn't hesitate.

Sad to say the deal is gone  It was at BestBuy, $249.99 with a $50 rebate. It was actually sold out when I posted, didn't realize they wouldn't be getting anymore.

How do you all feel about the ATI All In Wonder 9600 Pro?? I'm not a fan of the all in wonders, nevr have been. This card only costs $220 and it comes with a free HL2 CD Key.

I'm trying to get a little more without having to update everything, like the mobo and memory. I know deep down my Abit KG7 needs to go *sniff, sniff*...she's always been so nice to me....*pout* *sniff*.....maybe after the holiday we'll part ways........

$225 Same card I have. Pretty decent overclocker. I love it. Only downside is it takes up a PCI slot also because the heatsink is so damn big.

Here's one for $200 from Leadtek

A good way to find some decent prices is to go through www.pricewatch.com. I've almost always found the best deals through their site.
