View Full Version : Call of Duty disables surround sound

I have a A7V266E mobo with the c-media audio chipset.

CoD forces the driver from 4.1 to 2.1 every time I play. this annoys me since I have to change it back to 4.1 in windows and mixer or I won't have surround sound in any of my other games. Any ideas on how to lock the sound preferences in windows

I'v updated the driver and tried Miles,EAX,and EAX2 but it always does the same thing. I browsed a couple of CoD sites but havn't come across any ideas. Is CoD even surrond sound capable?

A7V266E use C-Media CMI8738 chipset, it does not support EAX2, it will support EAX. Try to use the latest driver for XP
here (http://www.cmedia.com.tw/download/OS-e-cmi8738_WDM_OS.htm).

Well on what brand? if it C-Media, it wont do any good, it cant support EAX3 in most games, best buy Creative Audigy 2 OEM. :)

yep. buy atleast an audigy 1 card. but if you can get the audigy 2 as AthlonXP suggested that would be better.

I had this problem too, but I never until now connected it with a game. I am still not sure what it was, but for awhile my sound was turned from 5.1 to 2.1 over and over and I never knew why...now I know.

I've been planing on buying a new sound card anyway but it always falls to the bottom of my to buy list....
Audigy<----or---->DVD drive
Audigy<----or---->512MB RAM
Etc...etc......to many things and not enough cash;)
But if im going to get a new card it might as well be good enough to last and do anything I 'll need. Lets make my Klipsch's Rock:cool:

Any preferences over the Audigy1 or 2

New egg has this for $72 with shipping

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 - PCI OEM

I've heard all of the horror stories about the conflicts with creative cards and VIA chipsets
Is it just all the crapware that comes with it or the drivers themselves.
