In case anyone cares, it looks like Dell has dropped the price on their 2000FP display in (I assume) preparation for the new model 2001FP. The 2000FP is still a very nice LCD and you will have one hell of a time finding one with comparable specs at this price. You can order it now for $824. 3 year warranty on the backlight, 1600x1200 native res, 25ms response, 20.1" viewable.

Other than the price, when I originally got my 2000FP the thing that pushed me over the edge was the fact you got that 3 year warranty on the backlight. At least at the time I ordered (around a year or so ago) most manufacturers only offered 1 year on the backlight which was unacceptable for a $800+ display (IMO).
I wouldn't blame you if you waited for the 2001FP, it should be a very nice display from what I've read so far. :)
This is a great price though and 25ms really isn't very bad IMO. I don't notice much streaking with it.

Told my dad he should buy the 2000FP (he's using a 17" monitor at the moment, but he has glaucoma, blind in one eye, not great eyesight in the other, so he needs something better). Looks like he might. Thanks for the heads up.

Trust me, theres nothing like 16ms response time on an lcd. After going through a few, I'm convinced that its essential if you plan to game on it. NEwayz, if yer gonna go all out, I'd say wait for the 2001 model.
I bought some one else a 25ms response LCD so I could test it out a bit, and (19" btw) it was horribly streaky... at least to my eyes, so I am looking forward to 16ms and 21" that is awesome.

You ain't seen nothin' until you've gone from a 50 ms LCD on an analog connection to a 16 ms one running on DVI. Talk about a night and day difference. I don't think I would ever consider another LCD with a response time higher than 16 ms.

what's your take on LCDs by NEC? I saw a 17" for about 4 to 500 with a 16 ms response time. .. keep in mind it was in a fry's ad.

Yes indeed. If you need a guideline, digitalwanderer's is about the maximum that we can tolerate around here.

Yes, thank you for taking care of that. We really do appreciate it. :)
To get back to your question. NEC/Mitsubishi make some really excellent LCD displays. $400-500 for a 16 ms response time is pretty solid (provided it's a 17-inch display). Don't forget to make sure that it also comes with a DVI cable/connection. It makes quite a difference in terms of picture quality.

I'll keep that in mind thanks.. I like CRTs as much as the next guy ..but i tend to realize that i won't be getting as much desk space in the future. Also I was enticed after sitting in front of a KDS LCD screen.. thought it was okay .and was aware of better ones out there. Overall I like the LCD's ability to lessen eye strain ..something i've had to deal with ..although not often but still deal with nonetheless..

I got an NEC 1760NX (16ms response time) this summer and it was a very solid investment. The picture is very clear and plenty bright, and there is no noticeable streaking; this is even on an analog connection too. Once I can afford a DVI cable it should get even better.

I'm going to switch to a LCD next year.
I'm still waiting on a good gaming LCD for
a good price. :)
400 bucks and I'll buy. A 19 will serve me ok. ;)

Yea I just picked up the NEC MultiSync LCD 1765 (http://www.necmitsubishi.com/products/home/ProductDetail.cfm?product_id=305&division=NEC) w/ 16ms response time. The display is so clean & bright it can be used as a TV :cool2:

Although it does use an analog connection, I compared the image quality to that of lcds that use dvi connections specifically focusing on the text and after some minor driver tweaks, I can't tell the difference.

Bro think about it. 16ms response time. That is something that might make me finaly get a LCD. I would gladly shell out the extra money for that nice a monitor.
