Im getting this one.
http://www.futureshop.ca/marketing/vendor_monster_cable/proddetailpc.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10017156&catid=10677&PCName=Vendor_Monster_Main&logon=&langid=EN&dept=0&WLBS=fsweb5#

on the product description it says.
$50,000 connected equipment protection and lifetime PowerCenter product warranty.

Will they really pay whatever gets damage caused by a power surge? I just got an Xbox and a new T.V. in my room and would like to know if getting this is worth it.

Read the agreement that comes with the device. The really large surge/spike protectors usually have a piece of paper that outlines the details of such agreements.

 $125
Thats the price for a decent UPS (uninteruptiple (sp?) power supply
I really don't know if its worth it
1)it lacks phone line connection if you have DSL for the Xbox
2)gold plated means absolutly nothing
3)The Joule rating is the only tech spec I see which is good
4)Ive seen Montercable SP come with $200,000 warentys for the roughly the same price
For what you want to connect you might find a belkin SP with the same Joule rating but for less cash. $50-70

Underwriters Laboratories rates surge suppressors based on let-through voltage. Under UL specifications, the minimum let-through voltage that a product can claim--and thus the best let-through voltage rating of a UL product--is 330 volts. Lower claims are not possible; let-through voltage ratings higher than 330 volts indicate a product that affords less protection

Heres a link on some S.P. and how they work.

Monster Cable is all marketing, just like Bose. ;)

As Kandoko stated for that price you can get yourself a voltage-regulating UPS. With that you can buy yourself some time to quickly save games on your XBox while the power in the rest of the house goes off.

There is a neighborhood of football fans who come over on monday nights that would sign an affidavit and disagree with you.

So what? They're football fans. Do you think most football fans know any better? Now if it was a neighborhood of serious home theater people then I'll listen. ;)

OMG.....that's the second most ignorant statement I have heard today. The first had to do with NASCAR fans. Congratulations

Looks like we have another one fallen blind to Bose marketing.

So exactly what about my statement that makes it the second most ignorant you heard today? Answer this, if your neighbor of football fans tell you that a GeForce4 MX is better than a Radeon 9700Pro, you'd probably believe them, too, huh? There's something called credentials. What makes a neighborhood of football fans more qualified to talk about speakers than a neighboorhood of home theater and studio people? Please don't tell me you also fall into NVIDIA's marketing, too. :lame:

Bose 901 Series V's : Had them since 1986. I grew up with these. I have them, in my bedroom, hooked up to the 901 Series V Equalizer they came with. After 17 years they still sound as good as they always have. Now THAT'S quality. Thanks dad.

Bose Lifestyle 35 : Had this for 2 years. Consists of the Acoustimass 15 components and the Bose media center. Same quality I've enjoyed from my 901's plus 5.1 home theater goodness.

Bose 3-2-1 : Bought this for my fiancee. DVD playback is just as good as my media center, and the shelf speakers and acoustimass module sound great too.

Bose 151 Outdoor speakers : These little bastards have lived through 4 hurricanes and a heavy winter back when I lived in Salt Lake City. They just won't die.

I'm not some kid who has bought into some made-up brand mystique. I have enjoyed Bose audio products since 1984. In other words, I have a long history with Bose products, and have come to trust their quality, enjoy their sound and have been given absolutely no reason to give them up.

Really though, there is no need to be ignorant. I live in a brand new sub-division. My neighbors are all middle class professionals. One gentleman who comes over regularly is the music director at the University of West Florida. And no, I wouldn't buy it if somebody told me a VooDoo1 was better than the 9800XT because I know better. But it sounds like you've bit down pretty hard on some propaganda in your own right.

Enjoy your speakers. God knows I enjoy mine.

I'm not here to tell you to sell your Bose. You can do whatever you want with them because it's your money and your personal enjoyment, but it is wrong of you to call me ignorant for not agreeing with you that Bose == superior product. Are you aware that Bose speakers lack mid range? Have you read through the links I provided? And I mean read it through, not skim over it.

From the list of Bose products you have used in the past, it is safe to say you have formed a bias towards that company. Perhaps that is preventing you from reading those articles with an open mind. I guess I'm not the one ignorant around here.

Bose are way overpriced for what you get. If you feel like coming down to Alabama, you should go hear my brother's stereo. NAD... mmmm... can't remember if it's a separate amp and preamp or simply a receiver, but whatever. Tannoy speakers and sub as well.

You won't be able to tell how good or bad your speakers are until you hear them with DVD-Audio or SACD. So if you don't listen to either, well, okay, Boses are fine.
