Ok, third thread lucky. Right? ;)

I am NOT prepared to give up on the 40.xx drivers for 9x/me yet, and although all my whining threads keep seeming to get closed I'm gonna keep trying to open new ones in the hope that it can stay civil and on-topic. Can we PLEASE just talk about either how badly we want some 40.xx luvin for 9x/ME or ways to let nVidia know we want 'em? We know there's people out there who think that there are better OSs out there, and that there are people who think the 40.41s are so buggy for XP that we shouldn't even be wanting to try them; let's all consider these moot points to the discussion and not raise them...shall we?

Here's where the last thread left off on a productive note:

"I sent off an e-mail to Carrie Cowan (http://mailto:ccowan@nvidia.com/) myself just to try and make myself feel a bit more productive. I got her e-mail off of nViida's press relations page (http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=press_room) where there's a few other e-dress' as well....

If you folks wanna help, why not drop each of them a quick line?

Brian Burke (http://mailto:bburke@nvidia.com/) is their desktop PR man, so he seems like fair game....and Derek Perez (http://mailto:dperez@nvidia.com/) seems to be the big-cheese of their PR dept so he'd be good too.

Drop 'em a friendly note just asking what the status of their 40.xx win9x/me drivers...nothing nasty. Just a show of interest to let them know we care. :)"

Now the rules are simple: No spamming, one letter a day, and keep it nice/clean/friendly....but let's start mailing them to let them know we're getting a bit impatient here. ;)

I haven't received any replies myself yet, I plan to mail out my second volley after lunch. (Hey, I'll give them the morning to reply. ;) )

MODS: If'n you're closing threads because we're whining for the 40.xx 9x/me drivers please let me know and I'll quit opening new threads. I'm assuming you're closing the threads 'cause they detereorate into some XP/9x personality clashing. ;)

Cause I like it :D I never have any problems and games run great :)

I am sure Nvidia will keep making Win98/ME drivers. I just don't see why they would stop. Tons (Maybe Millions) of gamers still use Win98. Heck, Win98 is still being sold at damn near any computer store you go to, and it ain't cheap

Yes, I too am waiting for some Det 40 and Win98 loving :D

If this were the reason your threads were closed, they would have been stopped a loooong time ago. Keep on whining - it's rather amusing I must say. :D

Thanks Saturnotaku! As soon as I saw your name next to the thread my eyeballs immedietely snapped to the left looking for a lock on the little envelope image. ;)

BTW-Does anyone know the proper etiquette for annoying a vendor without crossing that fine line into pestering? Is one e-mail a day overkill?

If these people are reading your messages, then it probably is. I would say once every other day until your impatient Indiana butt is satisfied is more than sufficient. Perhaps with more of you 98 dinosaurs writing, it may umm..."motivate" them. Just make doubly certain that our boys and girls at NV don't rush these drivers out the door like they did with the current 40.41 set. Or else we're gonna be vewy mad at vuu. :)

Mafia is still slower than 30.82 31.00

In 3D Mark game 1, 2 and 3 = lower scores. from 2 to 7 fps
Game 4, Vertex Shader, Pixel Shader... = higher scores

...Carrie Cowan wrote me back today and told me that nVidia was going to be releasing new official drivers on their site on Thursday of this week. (I LOVE it when people actually answer my e-mail!)

Thought I'd put it in just to let everyone know that nVidia actually did respond to two e-mails...compared to the 30 or so I have outstanding with ATI that I've never heard back on.

WHEEEEE! NEW DRIVERS AND I LIKE THEM!!!!

digitalwanderer,

I say we keep this thread open for Win9x feedback only, you all for that ?

Anyway, the 40.52 drivers are superb.

Sooooo much better than the 40.41 drivers for WinXP.

The colour is great, a bit washed out but I think that might be due to the different values now used for Digital Vibrance. So you just need to up it a bit more.

Quake 3 was great, no speed gain (possibly due to Quake3 being maxed out now ?), but it wasn't dark.
One thing to note is that it looks as if NVidia have been playing around with the Quake sky issue. It looks a wee bit better now, in a way. Although the scrolling resembled a corregated effect as it scrolled.

3DMark scores went up by 500 odd points, with the Nature test hitting 110 fps for me. Final Score was 11525, not that I care, it's just a damn good stability test for new drivers.

The overclock reg for WinXP, works in WinME as well, due to the keys being in the same place.

Serious Sam 1/2 worked great in DirectX and OpenGL.
Jedi Knight 2 worked great, and was fast using the highest texture settings.

Anisotropic filtering worked a treat in both DX and OpenGL, and appeared to work much quicker in DX. Not had a lot of time to test.

DOS colour vibrancy bug is still there  I can't believe this is STILL there. Try it, Open up a DOS window and your colours reset.

More testing tommorow.

Wait, are you saying that THIS Thursday is the day the official Detonator 40s are to be released? That's great! I'm really looking forward to those set of drivers. . .

sounds very plausible as nvidia is launching new cards on the 25th or 26th

Well on a sad note UT2k3 in D3D and NOLF2 did NOT pass the torture testing last night, both of them locked up on me. :( On the plus side UT2k3 runs a bit quicker with the new drivers in openGL mode. :)

I forgot about the new cards coming out, does anyone else think that putting out cards that aren't really new but have the new buggier 8x AGP and calling them "new" is a little silly? It seems more "improved" than "new".

MORE DRIVERS! MORE DRIVERS! MORE DRIVERS!

(Ok, I feel better getting that out. :) )

If nothing else, yesterdays driver release sure has added some life to this board section. :D

I think I spoke too soon, as well.

Nvidia's personal cinema is a no go.

i.e. Video Capture just doesn't work on any of the WDM drivers from 1.08 upto 1.19.
So I really hope they sort out the capturing problem before they go official.

I haven't had any lockups yet, merely of few funny fullscreen moments of black and white lines.

But at least they look promising, and they work better than in XP :p

Yeah, I think I got a little over-enthusiastic too and was just looking for the good side of these drivers. I still like 'em, but they are far from perfect.

Hopefully the new ones tomorrow will include viddy capture support. :)

that's assuming that the cards have no differences exept adding 8x AGP. but even then, the GF4 was just an "improvement" over the GF3, using the same basic architecture with some enhancements, etc ;)
