View Full Version : Is it bad to leave geforce overclocked all the time?
I just overclocked my geforce4 ti4200 to 300/550 from 250/444. Is it a bad idea to leave is overclocked all the time, like from startup to shutdown even if im not gaming? the card is really stable at this speed with the stock cooling. Also, it's the Visiontek card.

it shouldn't be causing any problems if your card is stablelly overclocked to that speed. of course, a lower clock speed will allow the card to presumably last longer, but its probably the difference between it lasting 10 years or 8 years, probably longer, not accurate on the numbers but you get the idea. like you would keep a card for that long anyway. however, since i'm living in california, and i use basic stock cooling, and there is no air condtioning in the house, the past summer we've been getting lots of heat waves with temperatures rising up to 100+, at these temperature, my computer was overheating bad, and my generally usually clock speed of 305/545 for my ti4200 would produce artifacts. so whenever it got this hot, i just quickly set my clock rates back to default.

forgot to add, when your not running games or 3d apps, etc, your card isn't being pushed at all, its generally running at "idle" temps. thats why you can overclock your card, you'll see artifacts in 3d before you'll see them on your desktop.
