Can anyone suggest an ultra cheap mobo and processor? Hopefully it will have integrated sound and video.

It's for my Mom for Christmas. She likes to check her email, surf the web, etc. Right now she has a Pentium pro 200mz.

I would like to keep my budget under $100 for the total package including new memory if possible.

Maybe you oughtta try them VIA EPIA things, they have a pIII class cpu embedeed in the mobo with integrated graphics. Good enough to handle daily web stuff etc. You will have buy memory seperate. But that VIA things should be pretty cheap?

That's about the best you can do...

I just did a seach and every motherboard with onboard video it turned up was at least $100 bones. Adding a CPU and RAM would tak on an extra $30-80...

One more thing, you will need an ATX case. I think your mom's PP is probably in an AT case. I ran into that when we upgraded my dads P233.

I just bought that mobo to replace a POS Socket 370 that was in a Compaq. :D I read some reviews on it and all looked really good. Was considering a BIOSTAR M7VIG-Pro that was really nice and inexpesive as well, just thought I would give this one a shot. I gotta a Duron 850 that's been sitting here doing nadda and decided to give it to a freind. It's replacing a Celeron 566 w/PC100.

Let ya all know how I make out with it if you'd like. :)

Thanks jAkUp... :) Peace,

It's actually a pretty good motherboard, rarely get any back.
The only thing I see is make sure you set the FSB, its a jumper beneath the AGP slot. By default it should be set to the XP setting, for Duron's you need to adjust it.
I see about 3 customers come back every day saying the same thing...

"I bought this motherboard and it won't post!!!"

"Did you set the FSB?"

"FSB??"

Well it is deffinitely a nicer mobo than I have checked out in the past for Micro ATX configs. Audio is impressive (doesn't crackle during bootup into XP) and the video for onboard is pretty impressive. I installed a Duron 850 with PC-133 256MB in it and it is very impressive considering it had a Socket 370 Celeron 566Mhz w/64MB PC100 on a i810E Chipset. :D

BIOS has been very easy to setup however I have ran into a problem that I hope can be resolved with a BIOS update. The CPU temp monitor is not registering in the BIOS at all. Just says "N/A/" Not really happy about that as I would like the ability to monitor these temps during the summer time months. (Old Duron 100Mhz FSB's run hot :( ) Has anyone your store has sold this mobo to experienced anything similar?

Thanks again jAkUp, so far it has been a great mobo decision minus the CPU temp problem.

Peace,

:)

hmmm.. i havent heard of any reports like this... i really dont know why the cpu temp isnt registering:confused:

does it have a visiable diode under the cpu?

Either it's damaged or it just isn't reading correctly. I installed that PC Alert 4 and it popped on with a reading of 182c ...lol. That is a completely untrue reading, though the case temp is sitting at a nice and chilly 27c. :D I'm not worried about the CPU temp actually since this system will only sit at stock speeds and that huge arse HSF I got on it is keeping it very chilly with a 80mm fan spinning at 2700 rpm and another 80mm pulling whatever heat is in the case out. :)

Again, great mobo despite that diode problem. I don't feel it's worth shipping back due to everything else working properly. Since moving back to TX, things sure do take a while longer to get here sadly. :( Use to be a 2 day delivery... but that was due to living about a 45min from NewEgg's distrubution center. :D "Ahh... those were the days.: "

Peace,

;)

Thers a Biostar nforce2 motherboard MNCG 400 with onboard video..
Used it when I made a rig for my landlord .. VERY good .
That and a Duron for 35$ make a good combo.
Search N82E16813138234 for mobo at Newegg.
