I am using an Asus m/b A7N-266VM. it uses nVidia nForce graphics and works fine with Windows XP. the processor is Duron 800 with DDR 128 MB.

i was able to install Red Hat Linux 7.2 as well. but Linux crashes soon after the kernel is booted. the error message is simply that 'the item does not fit into memory' (rather cryptic, i must admit).

a few days back i replaced RHL with Mandrake 8.2. Mandrake could only print a nice, 5-screen long stack trace upon booting. more importantly, Mandrake does not even boot into a shell when i tried the failsafe option.

any assistance from you in sorting out the mess will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

" i was able to install Red Hat Linux 7.2 as well. but Linux crashes
soon after the kernel is booted."

"Soon after" you wrote.. Try to start a 'from scratch installation' again
and WAIT after the install kernel has been loaded ... and do nothing!

If your system will hang after say 5-10 min without any external activity
it seems to be a serious problem. But, make sure you've deactivated any
APM/power saving settings in your computer BIOS for this test.
Try to do it at first.
