UT2003Demo, no contest. Consider:
-UnrealTournament usually has over 2000 DM servers available at any one time.
-There are certain extremely popular public UT servers that are normally hard to get into because the server is normally full.
-Example: The Factory public TDM server. This server is set up for 6 on 6 TDM, and normally is hard to get into. Usually, I'd have to connect as spectator and watch for someone to leave, or try to beat someone in as the server reset for the next map load.
-UT2003Demo only has 2 DM/TDM maps, 1 CTF map, and 1 BR (Bombing Run) map, along with one basic skin (multiple faces), and doesn't have some of the weapons (mainly the Redeemer and the Ion designator thingamabob).
-On the night that the UT2003 demo was made available, the UnrealTournament servers were largely abandoned, as people overloaded UT2003Demo download mirrors attempting to get the new game.
-On that same night, over 500 DM servers sprang up within hours of the download's availability.
-By the evening of the following day, there were 1400+ DM / TDM servers.
-Within 3 days of the download's availability, there were 1700-1900 DM/TDM servers available for the Demo.
-Predictably, many popular UT public servers are now empty, or nearly empty. This includes the Factory public server.
-UT's graphics, while based on an aging version of the engine, is to the point that most hardware can / does run the game fluidly in most situations.
-UT2003 Demo graphics, based on a new version of the engine, is extremely gorgeous, but taxes hardware, and especially the CPU (during gameplay), to the point that minimum framerates for most people are at best in the mid 40's, with most probably falling somewhere in the lower to mid 30's. Translation, extremely hardware intensive, while most people using the demo don't have hardware capable of giving the same fluidity that UT has.
Conclusion: Any game (demo!) that can grab the majority of the fanbase for it's extremely popular predecessor, despite being extremely feature limited and hardware intensive has got GoTY written all over it. :D
I still find it hard to believe that there are nearly as many DM/TDM servers for the 2 map demo of ut2003 as there are for the full, mature, well-established UT.

It's hype. Expect it to die down in a few months.
Yeh it will die down :p
UT 2k3 will become just another game gathering dust :)
While I go and play Warcraft 2 and 3. (yes I still love 2. It's one of those games that never collect dust) :)
Singleplayer: GTA3
Multiplayer: Battlefield 1942
Despite quite a few bugs in BF I really enjoy playing this game :D

My brother in-law loves Dungeon Siege, only one major problem with the game. He cant play MP, he has the French version and they never made a FR patch v1.07, I also looked on the zone yesterday and there was only 4-5 ppl playing! A game with so much promise and now you cant even play MP yet is a very big let down. No GOTY.
UT2003 I dont think will die down at all, if anything it will get bigger, why. Well firstly there are 30 maps, and 35 personnage(?) all different. The game is beautiful, I cant belive the amount of polys there are. Also there are alot of people that love DM/TDM and also that will love bombing run.
I myself am waiting for RavenShield, but thats early next year :( Anyways good to see that there are alot of games out that people are liking, we all win :D

I agree, I mean I understand the initial hype thing that a lot of games get but this is Unreal. PU is reporting that over a 36hr period there were over 1.2million d/l attempts for teh demo not to mention the increasing number of demo srv's currently running. Another thing that epic/de lucked up on is w/ bombing run. Finally we get another gametype besides the standard ones, that are actually fun to play and more challenging. I just don't see bombing run becoming just another assualt gametype either.
Who knows, maybe the same will happen for DoomIII? ;)

Man....Bombing Run is pretty much the only gametype I play in the demo now. :D

Mafia is like GTA3 only with a more engaging storyline and better missions. At least that's my understanding. I'd like to play it but I don't wanna shell out the dough for it. I'm saving my pennies for UT2k3. :D
Here's a link to the game's web site for 'ya:

I still think it'll be UT2003. The game is off to an even better start (popularity-wise) than the original, and otherwise is about as stressful on current hardware (especially the processor) as the original is on the hardware that was current when it hit the scene.

I actually had several different cards early after I got the original, including (but not everything) a Voodoo2 12MB, a TNT2Ultra, and a MatroxG400Max. Since I still play the game, it doesn't need to be said that every GF card I've had has been used with it.
I can honestly say that the video cards, while making some difference in the game (mostly in the form of color depth or minor performance boosts) contributed less to the increases in performance than upgrading my processors have (started out with a Celeron 300a @450 and now using an AthlonXP2100+ at 1845Mhz..)
Obviously the game's addictive, because it's been the main driving force for my upgrades as well as the primary benchmark I have used for determining what works best for me. I expect UT2003 will be the same in the future, now that I'm playing more of it than the original (and as soon as I see a copy of the game on store shelves, it'll be mine, mine, MINE:D).
