Im probably going to be buying my mum this LG GSA-4040b (http://www.lg.ca/computer/prodSpecification.asp?p=3310#) DVD-Burner for christmas but i just wanted more information on the + - standards.

Which is better and why? When i buy a DVD Movie from a store which format is it? Im going to be buying a couple blank dvd's along with the burner, which standard should i stick with? (Its going to be mostly used to backup all the photoshop work she does)

To tell you the truth i don't know, funny you should say that i just ordered a DVD burner for only 85 from ASUS, was going to get the LG but i doubt i would ever really use the DVD RAM burning feature that it supports.

It's actually the other way around. + has had more of a history of compatibility problems. I've never had any problems burning to - on my Pioneer (as that's all it will burn). Spend the slightly higher amount of money and get a dual format drive. That way you can buy whatever media is on sale at the time. :)
