Hey, I just built this new system for less than $500 AU
(excluding the 200w p.a system)

System stats are in my signature, so how'd I do?

Also... I've been recommended to buy a better graphics card. In one month I can upgrade it, but I will only about $300 AU. What card would you people recommend?

For what you spend I'd say you did OK, not great but considering what I've heard about component prices in Austrailia that's not too bad. I personally wouldn't have purchased that particular motherboard. Also, when you upgrade your graphics card, you should consider a power supply upgrade. 200W is not that much. Get yourself a 350W Antec, Enermax or other name brand power supply. Then with the rest of the money you have, get a Radeon 9600 Pro or GeForce FX 5700.

When installing one of the newer video cards I would suggest a psu with a minimum of 180 max rating on combined +3.3V and +5V rails (a 220 rated psu would be better). This means you should opt for a quality psu like saturnotaku suggested of 350W or better.

Don't go for one of the generic psu's as many don't provide the necessary power needed for your new system even with a 400W rating. There are some exceptions but I just as soon go for a quality 300W as one of those.

So far I've only found one cheapo-ish brand with good durability and strong rails... PowerMagic 450W, 500W dual-fan, and gold series 525W...

All other cheapos IMO = teh cr4p

I don't know what brands are available in AUS, but, hey, just thought I'd report my findings...

I think he has a 400W PSU, the PA is referring to his sound system.

We don't read so good, do we!

In AUD dollars it looks like around $220USD.

If your psu is adequate the Nvidia FX5700Ultra or 5900non-u would be good. If you want Ati the 9600Pro or XT would be a good upgrade. Of course I don't know the pricing on these cards where you live, but hopefully one of them would be in your price range.

Sounds like a very good price for what you have got there, as for the videocard, the ATI 9600XT or GeforceFX 5700Ultra would be worth looking at.
