Right now I have a Dell M782P which has been good to me although I have never seen a game run at a higher resolution than 1280x1024. It is a 17" Flat CRT, dot pitch .25mm and thats the highest.

Anyway I wasnt in the market for a new montitor but found this Sony CPD-G520P 21" Trinitron for $329 ( includes 1year replacement warranty) Shipped recertified (not refurbished) which may be to good too pass up. It goes for $699 on newegg and $800 on Amazon.

Anyway I know some of you have very expensive monitors and thought I would ask. My question is do you think I will see a big improvement? Also I have never seen a game run higher than 1280x1024.....does going higher look much better. It costs about 4x what I have now new but most times price doesnt matter so this is why I ask before I went ahead and orderd it.;)

SONY CPD-G520P 21" FD Trinitron (They say this is the updated version of the CPD-G520 if anyone has ever heard of that one)

Looks sexay! hmm for that price you could possibly get a LCD? But then again it is a Sony CRT.......

I am not missing my CRT from my change to LCD (phillips 170B4) though. But, for some, CRT is the bee's knees.

Well I just found this review and he claims it looks just as good as a LCD. Also again, I am not really in the market for a new monitor per say but just thought the price on this one was to good to pass up . Also I just checked newegg and all LCD's at 21'inches like the Sony CRT are over a $1000.

I am one of those people :p

Basiclly, with a very good CRT, you are going to have great colour, with sharp image quality, I use a 19" and its fine, but if I had the chance to go 21" CRT, I would in a heart beat.

If you were considering the purchase of that monitor brand new, I would say no way. New Sony CRTs are way to expensive. But as a recertified one for that price, I would say go for it. You aren't going to find too many better monitors for the money.

I would never buy a Sony monitor after the last one seemed like it was about to explode (noise like a buzzsaw, tons of glass a foot from my face. hmmm. that would have been a nice lawsuit, but I probably wouldn't have been able to see to appreciate a new monitor.).

Same one Baron?...and even if it wasnt how was the Sony brand before you almost lost your face? Everything I have with Sony's brand seem to break after a while ($1000 home theater, PS2, walkmans). But this price seems too good.:)

Lezsee. It was a few months before it started making the annoying high-pitched noise, and then it was about a year and a half before it got to buzzsaw level.

And no, I had the HMD-A400. 19", probably otherwise exactly the same (except for body shape).

I'd chip in a recomendation for Sony monitors too. Currently I have a 20" CRT from Sony and I absolutely love it.

Yeah it is huge, in every way...but it is nice.

I really really like it. Mine is used though, and has a slight flaw (the antiglare coating in the bottom left corner is starting to fail) it is real small but noticeable. The KDS Xtremeflat 19" I had already looks worse though I bought it new. Mine doesn't do anythin like baron said and it is over a year old now. I would reccomend you buy it but it is up to you.

edit:

The specs you listed are impossible.

"Dimensions & Weight: 19.6" x 19.7" x 19.2"(WxHxD), 67.4 lbs"

It cannot be smaller than 21" because although the part you see should be 20" the tube is actually bigger. Something is screwy, so make sure you get info right before you buy it.

The size is correct. Keep in mind that the screen size is measured diagonally, from corner to corner.

just hope to God you never have to deal with Sony.

to get mine fixed, MINUS shipping it to them, would have cost me $300 right there...

Well I am gonna upgrade from a Philips 109 P 19 inch to a Sony GDM-F 520 that monitor is totaly out of this world brother ;-) but of course it cost a bit more but for me it's no problemo heh..

Just do a search on Google and you will never touch annything else ;-)

And BTW it's the only monitor in the world who had 0.22 Dot Pitch .....
