Sorry I know there are probably lots of similar threads buried here but I couldn't find a decent answer in the search.

I just got a VisionTek Geforce 4 Ti4400 that is replacing a VisionTek Geforce 3 Ti200 in my 2nd machine. I was using Det 43.45 for the GeForce 3 and am wondering if I should upgrade for the new card or not as I've heard that there haven't been performance or quality improvements made in the drivers for GeForce 4's since the Det 40's and in fact both framerate and quality suffer for GeForce 4 users under the Det 50's/Forceware.

Is this true? I'm kind of out of the loop as my main rig is an ATI 9700.

I just installed the card and performance seems pretty good under 43.45 in UT2003, Max Payne 2 and BF 1942/DC although not miles better than the Geforce 3. Overall I'd say the GeForce 4 seems to still be a damn good card for today's games actually!

I would move on up to 45.23 for bug fixes. 5x.xx still is apparently quite unstable compared to 4x.xx for GF4 users.

Ti4200 (64mb) 53.03 works a treat for me in all the games I play. Increased FPS and other benefits for me.

Very stable. Only way you are going to find out is try it.

for TI4400, I've chosen to stay with the 45.23 drivers, I've heard too many complaints on the Det5's

I play UT2k3, UT, UnrealII XMP, Halo, NFS, and multiple console emulators with no issues whatsoever using 45.23

Either 45.23 or stay w/ 43.45, which is best for GF4 anyway...don't heed any opinions that say "try out the 5x.xx", the forums are full of GF4 users who did just that and now they can't properly get back to their previous drivers...the 50s seem to have a deep undesirable impact on the system.

"don't heed any opinions"

On my two other computers I have a G4 4200 in each and so far and testing them have no problems going up 53 or back to 43. Right now they have 52 and run super. Think before you speak next time. :)

Hold still while we take turns beating the Rage3D-ism out of you.

NO!!

The 50.x are having way to many issues.

I have many of my readers that are having problems with them. Since your card does not really need them, stay away!!
