Maybe ive missed something but the 5900nu's as we know them seem to have been replaced during the night by a 400/700 version. ;)

I ordered a Sparkle FX 5900, advertised @ 205. It droped in price to 185 but the specs didnt change so i carried on and ordered it. Just checked and as the little niggling feeling in the back of my head told me, its 400/700. I checked out the site again and it droped to 156 and this time they have adjusted the specs.

I dont think they did this intentionally to fool people, it just seems that the new specs for the 5900 is 400/700 and not 400/850. I was thinking of going with another manufacturer but i have a feeling ill find the same thing. :)

actually there are a couple versions of the FX5900

FX5900SE = 400/700
Albatron FX5900SE = 405/810
FX5900 non-ultra = 400/850

Yeah, that i know.

What im saying is that Creative, XFX, Sparkle and MSI both have cards called '5900' with no SE suffix and yet the cards are clocked at 400/700. So i can only assume that the real 5900nu's are being replaced by the SE, and the 'XT' are filling in for the SE's. The sparkle card was originally selling with 2.2/2,5ns RAM @ 850mhz but it seems they have droped the price and the mem quality and its still just called a '5900'. Creative Labs and MSI do this too.

I currently am unable to find a 5900 thats not been clocked at 400/700, if anyone else knows of a source that will ship to the UK though then please share.

475/475 MHz

GeForceFX 5900 Ultra
NV35 (4x2, 256 bits)
450/425 MHz

Yeah unfortunatley it looks like the 5900nu as we know it (400/850) no longer exists and companys are sending them out @ 400/700. :(

*edit*

AFAIK btw companys are allowed to name the cards whatever they want, so the LX is just an SE or whatever they see fit. Leadteks LX is just an SE.

It seems there will no longer be an 'SE' though.

5900 (400/700)
5900 XT (350/???)

Maybe NVIDIA decided to create a bigger gulf between the high end and lower end cards?

heh, a 256mb 400/700 would be a nice thing to add to the lineup... :)

///TRUE SON OF GOLDEN SAMPLE TI200/// ... heh :D

It would be sweet if these hit the market mid-Q1 2k4 for ~$200... REAL sweet...

I just ordered a bfg 5900nu yesterday and could have sworn the clocks where 400/850, but when I checked their site the clock speeds where 400/800. Seems like the clock speeds are all over the place.

Yeah, its really not a great situation because you can no longer be sure of the clock speeds based on the product name. Which was kinda the idea of having product names i thought so u could tell the difference between items ;)

2 weeks ago, I bought a Pixelview 5900nu for 176 from Microdirect fully expecting at that price it would be the SE version. To my surprise it is clocked at 400/850 even though the specs state 400/800. Just checked and they are supposedly still in stock - www.microdirect.co.uk

Cool, thanks for that.

Well i would have proobably took u up on that and ordered it, but im sending my card back (with a complaint for the wrongly stated specs) and i placed an order for a 9800pro not two moments ago. It was only 236! and comes with Tomb Raider AOD (Full Game). As im going to buy that game anyway it seemed worth it. :)

I didnt really want another ATI card but it just seemed too good of a deal. :D I actually do look at the software bundles and if im going to be broke this christmas i might as well have something to play lol.

You disappoint me Rob. :nono:

Nahh... j/k ;) A good deal is a good deal, bottomline and if you were going to get the game anyways, I can totally see how the cost of the card dropped in a great range. Enjoy your gaming bud.

Peace,

Yeah, i tried my best to but i just couldnt find a 5900 Ultra, only 5950's and they are in the 300's and i just cant afford that :S. I really did want an NVIDIA card but there was just nothing else on offer in the 240 price range. My 5900 is smashing though, if it had been clocked right i would have kept it.

Word to the wise about sparkle, they seem to have no support for the temperature monitoring features. I cannot get a core reading anymore, nor can i even get close to the overclocks the overly large WinFast 5900LX gave me, sorry to say this but if anyone reading this is going to go for a 5900 - Avoid sparkles.

PS Given my experience of Gainward you are looking at 500/1000 for the 5900. Better than the 400/700 you have found !

You want be dissapointed with that 9800pro IMO and good to hear you got a full version of T.R.AOD,I did'nt get no games with mine and payed a bigger price for it but thats the way it goes when you buy cards when they first come out.

Why don't they all name them NVFX or Radeon series 9 and just price them differently and than we will have to guess by price only. :ass:

Came today, and im very pleased with it. Even if i was wishing i was sliding in a 5950 :D. However im not one to cut my noise off to spite my face and i knew the 9800pro was a great card. For 236 it was just too difficult to pass up. Thanks for that link btw zakelwe, looks great. Shame i didnt notice it before hand.

However, after running a few benchmarks im rather pleased with the performance.

My 5900 @ 400/700 gave me the following...

14250 in 3Dmark2001.
4900ish in 3Dmark2003, or 5600 marks when it was overclocked to 450/850 (although that was with a LeadTek, not my sparkle card - VERY poor cooling on those sparkle cards have).

My 9800pro is pulling 16650 in 3Dmark2001, and 5640 in 3Dmark2003. Halo is running noticibly better (although one day i may get a system powerful enough to run it over 100fps ;)) and its all good.

The only issue i had was i forgot to remove a tweak before i installed the ATI drivers, and it trashed my windows install. So much so that i couldnt boot even in safemode. Basically i had the performance settings to background tasks/system cache. I have NO IDEA why the ATI drivers hate this but..... i got all sorts of write errors and windows just spit out its dummy. Clean install though and its all good. :D Great card for the money, no doubt.

You missed the Gainward Rob but you have a great card there anyhow, the AA quality in games is far better as well. Nice Christmas present.

Have a good festive break !

Thanks man, you too :D.

It's actually working nice, i got Halo working as it should. That gainward card would have definatley been a consideration though... those clocks look excellent :). It isnt technically my christmas preasent though, im getting a new webcam for xmas, the upgrading was kinda a rollercoaster ride since i upgraded to a P4 i have basically done the whole system over..

*edit* Another note to anyone looking at sparkle 5900's btw, i took the opertunity to check out the thermal solution and it appears to use some type of 'foam like' thermal pad. Clocking it upto 450/850 worked for about 5mins then the screen went bonkers and i had to reset. Unfortunatley it seems sparkle cut corners to get the price down :/ but they are now 153 so u cant complain i guess. :)
