I recently installed halo, however it is playing at an extremely slow speed...
and this is not because of the frame rate.
I get a good frame rate (A really really good frame rate :D ) but for some reason or another, the gamplay is quite sluggish.

Has anyone here had this problem and fixed it? if so, how?

Do you mean you get good fps but in the game time "passes slowly" like in slow motion?
What Windows and video drivers are you using?

Serial_Killer

yes I do mean that and I'm using win xp with the 52.16 drivers

Halo = crappy console port that was designed to run at 30 fps on the Xbox. What you can do about it = absolutely nothing. The game runs like crap for most people. Feeling like you're running through molasses at times it just how the game is.

And I'd like to know how you're getting a "really good frame rate" on your particular video card. A GeForce FX 5700 Ultra can barely run the game over 30 frames per second at 1024x768 on a 2.2 GHz Athlon.

yeah, but you are probably running all that AA and ****, where as I do not

SH64 and Serial_Killer:

You're about to be kicked right the heck out of here...

What can save you? Edit your posts.

... BTW, with Fixed Integer, a GF2ti/GF4MX CAN get pretty good framerates... I've seen it myself on a kt133a (SDRAM)/XP1700 @ stock speeds/GF2ti system I built...

I'll give you guys 10 minutes after 10:20am EST to edit your posts. We DO NOT act that way here. Failure to do so will result in:

1. Your posts being edited
2. Your ID's being put on the POOP list

... got it?

BTW, BTW means By The Way :p

jakup, u gots some high standards, boy!! :p I guess I'm in the stone age with my propensity to sometimes play on 15" monitors on older systems, to be satisfied with a 60hz refresh rate, to be OK with fixed integer if it allows for better framerates... :D ;)

IMO it plays great on my nforce2/5900SE setup, or so I think... (@ 10x7, 4XAF)... now if only I can get the patch to work correctly on my 5600 Personal Cinema setup on the tv... with my xbox controller and Lik-Sang adapter... that's been my frustration as of late...

Plays great on my current setup, not slow or anything. Of course I have to run at 640 x 480, but that looks fairly good on 19" monitor :)

Looking forward to GFFX 5900 and 1024 x 768 resolution tho

Here are some usefull tips to increase performance for Halo & i'm quoting from amdmb.com :
General Halo PeGeneral Halo Performance Tips :

Having played this game for a while and tested cards on it, I have figured out some "good" settings to try to boost performance.

Turn Specular effects OFF. As cool as it looks, the performance penalty is too high. Even if you disable all other features and just have Specular, it's still too slow. So just turn that off and turn on everything else to the Max.

Play at 1024x768. I know we PC people are spoiled with 1600x1200 gaming, but Halo was simply not designed to play at high res.

Disable Anti-aliasing. Halo doesn't support anti-aliasing, so turn it off in your driver! If you have it enabled, you will have a severe performance hit. Strangely enough, an warning dialog pops up when playing with an NVIDIA card, but none for ATI.

Never disable particle effects. Disabling this feature makes plasma grenades harder to see and you unable to see explosions. It's really odd seeing a grenade explode without any fire and enemies falling to the ground for no reason. If you're playing multiplayer, you want this on as you want to see which direction explosions are coming from.

Update to patch v1.2.
